It's been a little while since the game was announced, so now that the dust has settled, let's talk about it. To be honest, I wanted to get this out sooner then I actually could but I ended up being busy for some time which meant this update had to be pushed back.
WHAT TO EXPECT
I should probably take the time to clarify that these full on devlogs will probably be few and far between. I want to save many of the important parts to be revealed in trailers or actual gameplay.
Puppet Theatre is planned to be pretty big with a lot of content including both an expansive story and gameplay loop with a fair amount of post game content added into the mix. Most of the game was already been made before I announced anything relating it so I feel pretty good about achieving the announced release time of Fall 2023 despite the fact it's an ambitious project.
Lastly for this section I want to clearly state that this is not intended to be a horror game. It may have a few "creepy" elements to it at most, but it really isn't intended to be a scary game. My focus is to make more of an action themed game, with fast paced & fun to play gameplay and tons of content packed in.
STORY?
Talking about the story is hard, because I don't want to reveal too much of it yet.
Puppet Theatre as a game is going to be very story oriented. My focus here is to create a storyline that somewhat resembles how a movie could portray its own story, with tons of character development, cinematic parts, and constantly rising stakes to make sure you're never feeling too comfortable with how things are going. To fit with this theme, all relevant story elements are going to be directly shown to the player as opposed to the usual hidden secret lore you see from these kinds of games.
GAMEPLAY?
Alongside having an in depth story, a priority of mine for this game has been making fun gameplay.
To fit with the action theme, I designed the gameplay to be very involved with the player so you're constantly doing something, even on easier nights. The player has a lot of agency over the course of a night. Whether you fail or succeed in the game is entirely up to your decisions, as opposed to you just reacting to things that happen in game like in many other FNAF games. I think this has resulted in some pretty unique gameplay, and I'm looking forward to showing off more in a teaser or gameplay trailer eventually.
OTHER
Since this game page went up, it managed to reach over 130 followers, which is pretty cool. That's probably in no small part to what's already been shown of the game such as the poster and the video teaser. Big thanks to @ChuckParker1126 for helping me design that poster by the way, it's been pretty fun to work with him on that and it turned out great. We're going to be working on more things like that for the game so stay tuned for that.
Anything shown is subject to potentially change.
More updates for the game will happen.
