Hello, I am Erik it has been a couple of weeks since my last blog post. Since my last blog post we had our first game test with people for school. We got a lot of good feedback and have had time to fix some of the big problems that have come up.
Recently one of our group members decided to leave the project. We are of course disappointed about this but we still wish him luck in future projects.
So what are some new things that has happened to the game?
First changes to the player character. We added a flashlight so that the player can scare away the enemy. We have also removed the jumping ability. We felt that being able to jump did not add to the game and it cost more problems then what it did add. We have also made the player move faster when he is out of stamina and updated the UI for stamina. This was a request that came from the play test.
What have I been doing?
The during last week I have been creating the enemy mesh, textures and animations (see the gif below).
Creating the mesh did not take me a lot of time since it is not a very advanced model and I have done some 3d modeling in the past. What I found to be harder was texturing. Texturing has always been something I have had a lot of problems with and I had to look up a lot of tutorials for help. I have also done some rigging of the model but I did not get it to work out with the website I used to get the animations we want to use. Me and Max (level designer) have also been discussing how we want to tell the games story and how we are going to move between levels and progress in the game.
What are the rest of the group doing?
Our project leader is working on programming the AI to be afraid of lights. Max our level designer is trying to setup level streaming and improving on his level. Anton, one of our programmers, is currently working on implementing story notes and save/load system.
What is happening next?
We are currently planning on having are next play test 18:th of January. Things we want to have done before the play test: The player needs to be able to use his flashlight to make the AI afraid of the light from the flashlight. While on the subject of AI we want the AI to be able to use all the animations that I have fund.
