Devlog #2 | Post-Gamejam fixes!

Hey Everyone!

In the past two weeks, we worked hard on fixing a lot of major and minor bugs , and cleaning up things like messy gamejam code or unfinished art!
In v0.1.1 which is playable on windows now, the experience should be much smoother (and actually working as intended)!
The browser version has a very low priority right now, since we experienced huge performance loss with it.

We added a tutorial screen, which explaines the basic mechanics, it is available from the main menu.

Also, sadly, we had to remove the 4 player mode, because we messed up the gamepad inputs. I partly blame Unity for this! We will fix this issue in the future and bring the 4 player madness back! Fun Couch-Coop is one of the main goals we are trying to achieve!

A little FAQ

actually that’s a lie, no one asked these question, I’ll answer anyway:

What can we expect from the future?

  • Fixing bugs, exploits and other issues has a number one a very high priority for us. How fast we update this always depends on the scope of the bug, and if we can branch it from content updates (more on these below)

  • The art team is working on two new areas, while fixing the current one. You can check out our new Twitter account here for all infos and updates. Occasionally we will post sneak peaks on new Assets, Areas and Features there!

  • I will look into fixing and polishing the current hordelike gamemode

  • A big and hopefully very fun update will be to add power ups to the game! More on that will be explained in the referring Devlog!

  • We want a “Create Game”-like menu, where you can setup your game (Map, Wavecount etc)

  • On the long run we want to move the current experience into an “arcade mode”, and make a 1-4 Player campaign, with various maps, new modes and upgradable skills the games main mode.

  • We are working on a public roadmap right now, so you can check out what we want to do, and get in touch with us about it!

Soooo..when will all this happen?

  • To be honest… we do not know.

  • We don’t have a fixed update schedule, because since every member of the team is an active college student, we are making this in our freetime. And the amount of freetime can vary. A lot.

  • Anyway, we are super passionate about this, and are working almost every day on it, so we still get things done. But:

  • The major content updates (new modes, new characters, basically anything that goes beyond bug fixes) won’t go out until it is tested accurately. So they can take a while, we hope you’ll understand!

If you still have question, or want to give us feedback, or tell us anything else, please reach out to us in the comments, via twitter, or gamejolt-DMs, however you like it. We are very happy with any form of interaction :)

Sincerely,
Moritz Biederbick

  • PS: The complete List of Updates can be read below: Update | Description

  • Fixed a lot of Art | Size of Objects, reimports etc.

  • Added some Art | New Icons

  • Added a counter for killed enemies | it’s fun to keep track of, and maybe will be important when the Power-ups get added!

  • Balanced a few things | Mostly Character stats, there’s much more work to do on this front

  • Fixed how Grenades work | Grenades now give a visual explosion on when they are about to explode, this timer now starts when they hit an enemy

  • Removed shadows of laser shots | Serioulsy, how have we not seen this bevore?!

  • Updated some controls | p.E. interacting with ‘enter’ on pc was dumb

  • Added a credits screen | you can now read who works on this game, inside the game!

  • Added a Controls screen | you can check the controls from the main menu now

  • Added a Tutorial | From the main menu, you can access a few screenshots, which should explain most of the game

  • Cleaned upd some code | the Code for the Player and the AI Characters was strangely intertwined.

  • Fixed clean up related bugs | Moving working code is always a bad idea! ;)

  • Fixed a gamebreaking bug, where the current state of the game was not reseted when you die | yeah, i have totally messed that up.

  • Fixed some visual feedback | Icons change, when players die; the explosion of the rollbot now looks different; the laser-colour corresponds to the character’s colour

  • Fixed shooting while in menu | the upgrade menu would still catch the mouse input

  • Fixed upgraded stats bug | the upgraded stats would reset, when you swap weapons, if they are depending on weapon stats (attack speed, damage, range)

  • Fixed a bug, where two waves were spawning, when you restart the game | this happened because the waves spawn with a delay, and when you were restarting before the delay was over, both waves would spawn

  • Fixed shooting through walls | yeaaah, collision detection… I didn’t notice that. shame on me.

  • Added Crosshairs for each players | works awesome for the mouse, not so sure for gamepads.

  • Added Gamepad inputs in the main menu | They were messed up, when the new entries were added

  • Removed 4 player mode | It’s so sad. The inputs were just messed up in the current build.

Hi everyone! I started to create some environment props for my new video game, here is a cozy house in the forest. I'm planning to switch from Unity to Unreal... Let's see what new challenges I have to face. Made in Blender and Substance Painter.

It's now possible to destroy some of the obstacles and gain access to new locations or create shortcuts. #gamedev #indiegame #rpg
