Devlog #6 – Menu and Level design

Hello, Erik again and this will be my second blog post. Today I will be going over what I am currently working on and showing you my progress. After that I will briefly talk about what is going on with the rest of the group. Finally, I will end this post with my thoughts on how the project is going as a whole.

Since my last post I have been making the base main menu for the game, with all the buttons and functionality that it currently needs. We have also imported some 3D assets and I have update my level from all cubes to something that looks a lite better.

Here is the current main menu with start, load, options and Exit. It is nothing special and it will get a lot of improvement as the project comes further along. Because of the goal that the group currently have did we decide to not spend too much time on the graphic side of the menu, and only make the base mechanics needed to have a functioning menu.

Here is the current starting point on my level (note that we now have 3d assets). It is a very dark room with only one door. You have a bed but it looks like it has seen better days. There is also a table with three chairs surrounding it. This has also been a map to test out the new assets to see if they are compatible with our project. Because of all the new assets I wanted to build with them a bit more and have not worked as hard on creating lighting for the room. The room is currently a bit too dark but that will have to be changed soon.

This is the first hallway you will see after you leave the room on the right side of the image. The hallway also has the problems of being way to dark. All the hallways will have multiple rooms so that the player can explore more and when needed hide from his/her enemy.

What is happening with the rest of the group?
As I have mentioned earlier we are a group of five GameDev students. Three designers and two programmers.

Currently the designers are focusing on importing more assets, creating levels, and are also making some minor changes to the player HUD and movement. The programmers are working with our AI and are trying to get it to search for hiding places.

Our current goal as a group is to be able to have a game test on the 22th of December. For our game test we want to have the two first levels and a AI that can track and damage the player.

My thoughts on how things are progressing:
From my point of view things are looking like they are progressing at a steady pace. I think we are getting a lot of things done and that we will have a reasonably good game with the amount of time that we have spent on this project.

Thanks for reading I will not post for a couple of weeks so if you want for some reason read more from me, you will need to press that follow button so that you can be up to date on are project.
