Hey everyone,
It’s been a while, huh? I wanted to give you all a proper update on what’s been happening with the game and where things are headed from here
First off, i'd like to start by saying that the game isn't dead. I’ll be honest and say that development has been pretty much on pause for the past few months. A lot of personal stuff came up - not just for me, but for others on the team too, and it ended up stalling everything
That said, I’ve had some time to reflect, and I’ve decided it’s finally time to bring the project back. That does mean there are going to be some changes, though
Some team members won’t be continuing with the project, and to them i'd like to express my thanks for everything they’ve done so far. I got to know some of them really well, and others less so, but regardless it’s been great working with everyone. I’m super grateful for the time and effort they put into the game. As they step away, I’ll possibly be opening up a Google Form in the near future to look for new folks to join the team - mostly artists and people who'd like to help with concepts for now, but we might be open to other roles too if you’re passionate and want to help out! The form will stay open for as long as it needs to, and if I think you’re a good fit, I’ll reach out to you directly via Discord. I plan on making a more detailed post about that when i feel ready
Because of all this, development is basically getting a soft reboot. To be completely honest, I was a little nervous about the idea at first but I really believe it’s what’s best for the game. We’re not throwing everything away, the story and characters are mostly staying the same, but we’ll be restarting the programming and a lot of the art from scratch. I also want to take this chance to try out a few new ideas and do some things a little differently this time around
Also, I’ve noticed the game’s been getting some newfound attention recently, and I just want to say that it seriously means a lot to me. I appreciate all the support 💚 I would like to continue thinking of the game as something small and fun and as something made with love rather than pressure, and keep that energy all the way until the end
For the time being, as our programmer situation is kinda tricky, our focus is going to be on finishing concept art and visual stuff, and polishing the characters and story first. That way, once we do have someone to handle the code, they’ll have everything they need to just put it all together
I know it might sound a little discouraging that we’re kinda starting over after months of quiet, but I haven’t lost hope. I think of all of this kinda like hitting a reset button, and I’m feeling motivated and ready to see where all of this will lead in the end
Thank you to everyone who’s been here since the beginning, and also to those who only recently stumbled across the project. I think a lot of the new attention lately is probably thanks to @SODA_FIZZ and his amazing track for the game, Mercy’s Requiem. While, as I’ve already said, I appreciate all of the support on the UTK channel, maybe consider checking out his personal profile and supporting him on his music and dev journey. He really does make incredible stuff, and I’m super thankful for everything he’s done on the team since the start of the project 😁 Massive shoutout to him!
