Devlog

Hello Game Jolt!

I've mostly decided to write the following post in preparation for the release of the game (although it is quite sometime away), and to further explain what this game's purpose is, mainly so it stays on the page for a more depth explanation for what this game is.

Back in 2019, I started working on the first iteration of Fyrat's Ice Cream. However, it quickly became too complicated for me to develop at the time, leading to various issues and lack of direction. That 2019 iteration was far from the game I wanted to make, and it just wasn't very good in general. I was still early into making games and I just didn't really know how to make a "good" game around said time.

Ultimately, I had limited knowledge and skills in game development, and just couldn't put up with it. I ended up canceling the game shortly after the demo came out.

Footage of the 2019 iteration:

Then, last year (2022), I decided to revisit that same demo and recode the entire game from scratch as a test of my Clickteam knowledge. Most of the assets were already there, except for one character and two new mechanics I added. I got that done very quick, spent around a week working actively on that recode. I was all set to release it, but I simply wasn't happy with the game visually. It was very much so lacking and it was just not a good idea to release it in that state.

So, I thought it would be a pretty alright idea to go back to this recode, and overhaul the graphics entirely, bringing this game back in a far more polished tone basically, alongside many other changes needed. And that's exactly what I plan on doing right now.

The recode (previously mentioned) is complete and functional. However, I don't want to release this recode in its current state because the graphics are outdated (from the 2019 iteration) and don't reflect any big improvement visually. So the whole point of this is to basically bring back that old game, in a far more polished light, showing off what I am truly capable of as a indie developer.

Since making these kinda games (more-so hobby projects to show off my talent) isn't as much of a priority to me anymore, it will take some time. I'm aiming for a release later this year, probably around October, but that may very well change.

More devlogs will most likely come out soon enough or some other teases for the game. But for now, these are the current plans. I tend to almost always develop games at my own pace, taking numerous breaks through.

See you on the flipside!
