[DEVLOG] - New features are coming + Why we delayed


Hi, it's me again. Just want to make this post to update you all about the project, where we are now and what made us delay. I haven't told you exactly why as I thought that would ruin the surprises, but seeing as I've shown some stuff yesterday, I think you guys deserve a proper explanation.

In short, the playtesters had trouble understanding the game. Some found it easy to learn, while others struggled and basically gave up. Given that this is meant to serve as a visual learner, that means the project had failed in that regard.

But since it's not available to the public yet, there's still an opportunity to make it better, and that's what we're doing at the moment.

Aside from that, new features are coming to the demo!

Skins and Preview

That's right, you can now change how your game looks!

Using the Battle Manager, you can make it so that you have a different coloured border and UI than that of the original UNDERTALE.

Here are some examples, just to name a few.

The HP bar can also be changed as well, but I did not use it in any of my previews.

Using this, you can add more atmosphere and connection to your game's overall theme.

And there's many more where that came from... literally, there are almost 80 octillion different combinations! I think it's safe to say we won't be running out of themes anytime soon.

The buttons can also be changed, but it requires a little bit of knowledge in math, and an external image editor. All you need to make it work is just ONE image, no need to scatter sprites around!

I say it requires a bit of math because having buttons of different sizes would look very silly, wouldn't it?

...No? You don't think so?

...oh...

Either way, you can now not only re-create your favourite battles, BUT you can also add their themes as well!

I highly advise you though, if you're going to use other people's sprites, ask them for permission first. I cannot be held responsible for any kind of action taken against you.

But yeah, that's all you get for... oh, I forgot something.

Now you can see your full battle without having to play it or draw out concepts.

There's still more work to be done, but we're still making progress!

Believe it or not, this is how I got the idea to put skins in UNDERCREATOR

Just so you get an idea of what it's like to package a fangame using this.

This is for a simple encounter with three rooms in the overworld and one music track (4 minutes in length).

Whole thing is 4.71MB.
