Starting from last night, you may have noticed that you haven't been able to connect to the game server. Unfortunately, we can confirm that this outage is due to an ongoing DDoS attack targeting GMServer, the service that we use to run DF CONNECTED's official game server.
If you aren't familiar with the term, a DDoS attack (short for "Distributed Denial of Service") is a type of cyber-attack which aims to severely disrupt an online service by flooding the bandwidth/resources of a targeted system.
During a DDoS attack, any players that are online can get disconnected from the server without warning, and players who try to login or register may find that they are unable to do so.
Sadly, this isn't the first time that we've had issues with DDoS attacks. It's likely that this is being done by the same attackers as before, and we've heard that they have been targeting other fan-games as well. It is disheartening to know that there are individuals like this out there, who are willing to keep doing this just to attack these passion projects.
At the time of writing, GMServer is currently unavailable as a result of the attack. Any games that use GMServer to power their online multiplayer, including DF CONNECTED, cannot be played online until the attack is over.
