Difficulty is Difficult

Let me tell you about how hard it is to balance the difficulty for this. From the start, I knew the bullet speed upgrades were overpowered. To tone that back a bit, I made it so that more enemies will spawn the faster your weapon is shooting. This increases the amount of money your making though, so then I had to up the price of things.

Originally, the difficulty would slowly scale up; the speed of the enemies would increase after each wave (a wave in this game is finished only after every different kind of enemy has been spawned). Sadly, this makes it take forever for the game to get more difficult though, so I took that part out and replaced it with a system were the enemy speed depends on how fast your weapon is firing. This, I hope, will balance out the difficulty; but from what I’ve played of it, it turns the gameplay from having to aim at the enemies, to having to dodge them. That, however, could be seen as balance. Once you have the fastest weapon, you don’t even have to aim; this new difficulty factor acknowledges that, and changes the gameplay to stops it (I hope) from being boring.

Annoyingly, the bullet upgrades are the only things that really change the difficulty of the game. I’m not sure whether I should go ahead and add difficulty changes coming from other upgrades, or just leave it as it is now.

Anyway, I’m going to go take something for the headache I just got working on this. Remember that I don’t delete the older versions, so if you want to see how the old game worked its still up.

In the quest for accessibility, I'm adding Resurrection Shrines for players on the 'novice' end of the platforming spectrum.

In order to unlock the power of a Shrine, you must collect 3 'Souls' from your dead corpses! (the floating blue orbs)
