Distorted Mind: True Humanity [Devlog 5]

Progress Report.


I'm back! And I've got a news to show you!


Game Icon:

This is the icon of the game! It's made to be easily recognizable when seen from afar. Wanted to keep it minimalistic and similar, in a way, to the previous game logo.

This is a screenshot taken directly from the game.

The tutorials of the game will be presented in this format, with an overall VHS aesthetic. They are mostly comedic and short, so don't worry, they won't drag at all, you can also skip them if you like.

Main menu teaser:

A blurry teaser photo of the menu! If you've got a keen eye, you may have realized the aspect ratio for this menu is, well, interesting, that is due to the fact that you'll be able to move through the menu as if you were in an actual office in game.

I wanted to try to do something quirky for the menu, and this was ultimately what I chose, maybe someday I'll show some of the scrapped ideas I had planned for the menu...

Most nights will include a cutscene! These are meant to reinforce the story-based aspect of the game. They are quite short so they may feel kind of rushed, however, I didn't want to bore you with unnecessary exposition.

Jumpscare frame:

This is a new jumpscare I've implemented! This is definitely my favorite one so far, it's not something visually crazy, but the animation is really cool.

Just a silly teaser I made a while back, didn't feel as if it worked perfectly with the looks of the page, so I ended up not publishing it. Just wanted to show it off because I kind of like it.

Now, I want to be completely transparent with you all, so here's a detailed list of everything I've done and what's left to be done, keeping some secrets still, of course...

Progress:

  • Intro Night 1: 90% (Needs polish)

  • Intro Night 2: 90% (Needs polish)

  • Intro Night 3 + 4: 0% (Optional)

  • Office Gameplay: 90% (In need of a new jumpscare + polish)

  • Night Progression: 100% (Completed)

  • Game Icon: 100% (Completed)

  • Game Over Screen: 100% (Completed)

  • Night Start Screen: 100% (Completed)

  • Night End Screen: 100% (Completed)

  • Warning and Loading Screens: 100% (Completed)

  • Extras Menu: 15% (Only character renders completed)


Minigame Status:

Sad news, but the minigame I mentioned in the last devlog was sadly scrapped. Even though most of the minigame was finished, I simply came to the conclusion that it was just... not fun, at all, so I scrapped it.

Maybe I'll take this choice back in the future, the whole thing had quite a lot of effort put into, and it pains me to cancel it, but it would definitely hurt the full game if it was released like that.


What's next?

I haven’t really mentioned it, but I’m still a student, a university student, in fact. I’ve expected the development to stop or just slow down drastically since classes started once again, but I’m FINALLY reaching the end of the year, which means development will start to pick up pace!… in about a month, though. Still, I hope I can get your hopes up with this devlog so you get an idea of how close the game is to be finished.
