Hello there!
Daniel here, bringing you an update about what I have been upto since last time.
What I’ve been working on is a level, some 3D models and some controller feedback in the menu.
Level
I’ve been working on this fairly large level that we can use in our game. So I’ve tried to make the level contain different areas, and what I ended up with was two areas containing buildings and two areas containing rocks. I went with this brighter, coral reef look with this level, I just liked the thought of having this rich environment to explore.
I have tried to fill every gap in this level, just filling it in with something. Just so I can get this rich environment I talked about earlier. I want the level to always be interesting, so no matter where the player is on the map, he/she will be able to see at least something that catches the eye. But now that I’m done with props and corals for this level, I need to fix fog, particle effects and fish!
I’m pretty happy with the level in general, I’m glad that i was able to fill it out with a lot of stuff and that every area is different. I was able to avoid repeating using the same assets for every area which i think makes it much more interesting. That way every area is unique with its own assets and that does alot in my eyes.
3D Models
For each area in this level I have added two different types of coral, making it contain about 8 different types at this moment. There wasn’t 8 different corals so i sat down and made some corals that we could use, I’ll display them below.
Feedback in the menu!
Yes! You heard it here first! No but, the feeling of such a simple thing as finally being able to implement the haptic feedback to something useful! So how it works at the moment is that when the player points the controller on a button, the controller sends out a vibration pulse. This pulse only happens once per time you select a button, making it a rather subtle but very nice feedback!
At first I could not make it vibrate only once, but it would rather constantly vibrate if the controller was pointed to a button, but I got help from a fellow colleague and he was able to actually not only fix my problem, but also help me out with a system that controls the strength and length of the vibrations. So with this I hope that it will be easier for me to implement vibrations to other parts of the game.
And now?
Well, good question indeed. What I know is that now I’ll focus entirely on completing my level and just implementing vibrations where it’s needed. I’ll see if I’ll be able to tweak some of the settings of the post processing scripts but otherwise that’s what I’ll be working on!
And that’s all for this time! Thanks alot for reading and I’ll see you around!
