DONTFORGET: The Unofficial Story Mode Novelisation Prologue

(+ a screenshot leak from time travel)

Ten years. Ten long years since Frisk, a child of humanity, departed the Underground, leaving behind only echoes of laughter and a quiet whisper of hope. The monster world, once full of life and diversity, now seemed a pale shadow of its former self. The six stolen souls that had granted Frisk freedom vanished without a trace, as if they had vanished into thin air. The kingdom, once ruled by the wise Asgore, now rested on the frail shoulders of Alphys, queen by necessity, not birthright.

Her reign was marred by tragedy. A maniac, whose name was now whispered with horror, stalked the Ruins, Snowdin, and Waterfall, leaving not a single living soul behind. Only on the way to Hotland, when the ashes of innocents had completely covered their hands, did Frisk realize their sin. They realized, but it was too late.

Sans, a skeleton with a more ambiguous perpetual smile now a mask, was the only one remaining by Queen Alphys's side. Toriel, Papyrus, Undyne the Undying, Mettaton NEO, and even Asgore himself — all were lost, their lives cut short by a merciless hand. Alphys, immersed in grief and despair, desperately searched for a way to restore hope to her subjects.

And then, in the dusty archives of the late scientist, she found it. A scientific discovery that could change everything. "Dark Fountains" — geysers capable of transforming ordinary things into mythical creatures, reviving the dead, and granting new life. Inspired, Alphys opened four such fountains: one in the Ruins, another in Snowdin, a third in Waterfall, and a fourth in Hotland. And from the dust, from oblivion, they rose. Toriel, with her kind eyes, Papyrus, with his unquenchable enthusiasm, and Undyne, with her unwavering determination. Others joined them, those who were lost, and those who had been created from inanimate objects, becoming part of a new, strange horde of monsters. And even the doll of Mew Mew Kissy Cutie, Alphys's once-beloved heroine, began to stir with the same jerky movements, as if it had burst from an anime screen.

The Underground had changed. It had become wilder, more unpredictable. And into this world, full of shadows of the past and ghosts of the future, a ninth human fell. Harlow. Their past was shrouded in mystery, their intentions unknown.

The first people Harlow encountered on their journey were two figures, whose appearance was as unexpected as it was alarming. In the Ruins, amid the ruins of ancient buildings, stood Chara. Their reanimated corpse, buried at the very beginning of the Undertground, was now clad in a rough barbarian outfit, their eyes glowing with a wild, indomitable fire. Beside them, like a fairy tale come to life, stood Asriel. He was once again in the form of a goatling, but his robes, woven from stems and vines, and his bright yellow wizard's hat, reminiscent of a golden perianth, betrayed something more than just childish play.

"Hello, new friend," Chara whispered, their voice hoarse, as if from long silence. "Are you lost?"

Asriel nodded with childish innocence. "We've been waiting for you. We knew you'd come."

Harlow looked around. The Ruins were more gloomy than they expected. The shadows seemed deeper, the silence more ominous. They felt their heart beat faster. This Underground wasn't the one they've heard about. It was a place where the past came to life, where fairy tales became reality, and reality became a nightmare.

What adventures awaited the new wanderer in this unrecognizable Underground? What secrets lay behind Chara's smile and Asriel's wisdom? And would Harlow be able to find their way in this world, where the line between life and death is blurred, and hope is intertwined with despair?

Harlow took a step forward, their gaze meeting Chara's wild, yet somehow sad, gaze. "I don't know how I got here," they replied, their voice hesitant. "But I'm here. And I'm looking for answers."

Asriel, with a slight smile, adjusted his hat. "Answers? There are many here. But not all of them are pleasant." He pointed to a winding path leading deeper into the Ruins. "The path leads through these lands. But be careful, new human. Not everyone you meet will welcome your arrival."

Chara nodded, their gaze sweeping over Harlow with subtle curiosity. "Some of us remember. Remember how people hurt us. And they haven't forgotten." They stepped aside, opening the passage. "But there are also those who seek reconciliation. Those who wish to right the wrongs of the past."

Harlow felt a chill run down their spine. They knew something momentous and perhaps dangerous awaited them. But a glimmer of perseverance and a bit of determination burned in their eyes. They were here for a reason. And they were ready to face any challenges this transformed Underground offered.

"I am ready," they said, their voice firmer. "Where should I go?"

Chara and Asriel exchanged glances. A shadow of something flickered in their eyes that Harlow couldn't yet understand. Perhaps it was hope. Perhaps it was a premonition of coming storms.

"Go forward," Chara said. "And remember: in this world, where the past comes alive, the most important thing is not to forget. Not to forget those we've lost. And not to forget who we are."

With these words, they dissolved into the shadows, leaving Harlow alone on the threshold of the unknown. They took a deep breath, feeling the weight of this place's history. Ten years. Ten years that had changed everything. And now, the ninth human had to walk their own path to understand what it meant to "not forget." Their adventure was only just beginning...

Outside of Steam, I've recently been trying to port Homestuck Strife Project on MUGEN and testing it, as my laptop doesn't support OpenGL.

I've also been chilling in DONTFORGET sometimes, achieving the last trophy until 2.8.0.

A day after an epic adventure in the world of Deltarune, Wally and Chiko fondly regard the aftermath of their original series' tribute episode.
