Hello everyone!
These last couple of weeks I’ve been working on couple of stuff for our Versus mode, coming up with ideas on how our combo lettering should look like in single player and multiplayer, and how Jack’s aerial combo should look.
For the Multi-player mode we went with the idea of allowing Jack to be used in different Hue color’s to be identified for each player. After play testing the versus mode, it was extremely fun, BUT… we did notice that it was a bit hard to keep track of your player Jack since the game is so fast paced when attacking other players. The solution to this was that we added a colored gem above the players head to help track the players movement while fighting.
During the process of working on the single-player/verses mode, we definitely wanted to make the player feel great about how high of a combo they can get on their enemies and the only way we felt that we can achieve that was by the type of font style we had for the numbers/letters for the combo’s. We wanted the style to be similar to a Devil May Cry / Street Fighter style font to give it a real kickass feel to it. A great friend/collegue of mine John Ledesma @j0hnledez helped us achieve that awesome font style we were aiming for and we greatly appreciate his awesome work which fits perfectly for Wenches and Loot.
Coming up with an idea for an aerial combo for Jack was fun since there are numourous ways we could go with his attacks. Since this combo is a light, heavy light combo for his first attack since Jack is already in the air I felt his first attack should have him lunging towards his enemy with his Sword for a light attack. For the following hit, I wanted Jack to bring down his all mighty heavy sword Big Bertha in a downwards motion striking the enemy.
For Jacks last light hit, we had to think on how we can possibly have Jack hit an enemy up to allow the player to continue thier combo in the air so Jackripperz and I had the idea of when Jack swung Big Bertha in a downwards motion, the momentum of Big Bertha would help Jack flip over and in this process Jack would use his left hand to grab his Sword and swing it in a backwards motion as he’s flipping in the air allowing the enemy to get knocked up in the air to continue a combo. We play tested the aerial combo and it looks pretty EPIC. We’re excited to show off our updated Single player mode and also our new Versus mode at an upcoming event San Japan.
Stay tune for more updates, take care everyone.
Peace,
Dredex
