Hello everyone! So I got to experience Pax South for the first time and it was overwhelmingly amazing! We received great feedback and a lot of fans loved playing the demo that we had out for Pax. A lot of the people that played really liked how our combat system felt/looked which makes me feel that I’m hitting that sweet spot for when it comes down for Jack’s animations. Ol’ Faithful is the weapon that I just finished animating.
For Ol’ Faithful’s combo attack, after you perform the first two hits you’ll then begin to charge up how far/strong you’d like to throw your shield at your enemy. The above animation is when Jack is charging up for his shield throw. After I have finished with Ol’ Faithful, I started working on new animations for a bomb thief that we’ll have in the game and also started working on death animations for the thieves, thugs and bats that we have in the game.
Every enemy will have a hit animation for every time Jack hits them and also a death animation. There will be different types of death animations on each enemy depending how you killed them. For example, if a thug was to die from a dagger hit he’ll then lunge backwards with a dagger in his chest and as he hits the floor he’ll bleed out. Another example could be whenever Jack casts magic at an enemy and the impact of the blast will leave the enemy with a dark/burnt outline on the front of their body.
And lastly I’ll be working on a couple of humorous death animations for our new bomb enemy which will be pretty fun and exciting to show off. I’ll more than likely post animations of this new enemy on my next devlog so keep a lookout for that update! Till then take care everyone.
