It’s been on the todo for some time, and it was requested as well: The ability to drop items.
Currently, you can only drop an item by switching it with another item on the game layer, which happens mostly in the early levels. When the inventory gets full, you are pretty much stuck with your current items.
So far, I’ve only considered one option, but now I’ve added a few more options to the list. If you are interested, feel free to let me know what you think - I love feedback =)
Option 1: Add a tile “Drop” in the backpack layer. When holding an item and entering the inventory, you can activate the drop tile. This drops the current item on the game layer - assuming there’s not already an item on that tile.
Option 2: Press W twice. Currently you begin opening the backpack with W. When the meter is full, you enter the inventory layer. A solution could be to press W while loading the backpack. If you do, you will instead of opening the inventory layer drop the current item.
Option 3: If the player activates an empty tile, the current item is dropped. This will not happen if the player is holding the hammer (or any future items which are dependant on activating an empty tile).
Option 4: Add a tile for storing the item. In the older versions (before the inventory layer), there was a tile called ‘pillar’, which could hold one item. The player could build a similar tile using the hammer, which can store an item you want to get rid of, or use later.
“Option” 5: Some of these options could also be used for destroying the item instead of dropping it, but it’s probably better to just drop an item right now, since the player really can’t benefit from destroying items. Unless the player gets some resources from destroying an item..?
What do you guys think? How would you want to drop an item in Necken?
Love,
J
