Actually, before Frisk became a Dustdust hunter, she also had Sans... well, he's still there, just in a different form.
Actually, according to the plot, Sans wanted to kill all the Monsters in the dungeon to take away Frisk's opportunity to get XP, but not to kill her, but to bring her back to LV 1, because he thought that if a Human dragged on being at LV 1, he would become 'a Better person'
Frisk, in turn, wanted to see how determined Sans was and locked him in a battle with Papyrus, from which the Skeleton himself COULDN'T get out, because Papyrus wanted to TALK to Sans, so it was impossible to spare him, and the escape button was missing due to the game's convention of a 'battle with the Boss'.
If Sans doesn't kill Papyrus himself, then Frisk kills Papyrus and loads the save. If Sans kills Papyrus, then Frisk loads the save and the whole thing starts all over again.
I plan to partially animate this and make at least the first video, but for now I'm only starting to talk about the lore in text format.
