FAQ Update: Character Combat Roles Explained!

The official PinesQuest 2D FAQ has been updated with explanations of how each of the playable characters in the game play, including comparisons to other RPG classes and characters! Check ‘em out!

Dipper is very versatile early in the game due to being the first to get offensive magic spells, but his main focus which becomes more relevant from mid-game onward is his defense and supportive abilities. He has very high defense/magic defense and learns many skills that have the primary function of buffing his and the party’s defensive capabilities and stats overall. His magic element is Wind. Most Comparable RPG Class: Paladin

Mabel excels in offense, both physical and magical, but also has powerful healing capabilities. This makes her extremely versatile throughout the game as she can heal the party as well as cure their status conditions while also dealing out very good damage on turns where support is less necessary. Her magic element is Light. Most Comparable RPG Character: Ness from EarthBound

Soos is a versatile tank with offensive magic spells, support abilities and the game’s highest HP stat. Basically he can take whatever the situation requires, just not quite as well as other characters who have specializations in specific areas, usually. He makes up for this by being able to probably stay alive much longer than those other characters. His magic element is Lightning. Most Comparable RPG Class: Warrior

Wendy is a quick, offensive physical attacker with high attack and agility stats. Basically she hits fast and hard, especially with her special moves. While she does also get offensive magic spells, her actual magic attack stat is fairly low, meaning she mostly has these as an alternate option against enemies where physical attacks are mostly if not totally ineffective. Her magic element is Ice. Most Comparable RPG Character: Chie from Persona 4

Stan is Wendy’s tankier, slower counterpart in terms of a physical attacking focused character. He has more defense/magic defense/HP than she does, and hits even harder, but has a very low agility stat. In addition to also having support skills, some of his special moves have the bonus of being able to inflict status conditions on enemies. He has no magic element. Most Comparable RPG Class: Monk

Pacifica has good offensive capabilities in terms of both magic and physical attacks, but her defense, magic defense and HP stats are low. Luckily she makes up for this by having the highest agility stat in the game, making her fast and difficult for enemies to hit. She also specializes in inflicting status conditions on enemies more than any other character. Her magic element is Earth. Most Comparable RPG Class: Thief or Rogue

Gideon is a magic focused character with excellent defense, magic defense, HP and magic attack. However, the downside is that his agility is rather low. Thankfully you won’t need to be healing him as often, making him incredibly useful in longer and more difficult battles so long as he doesn’t run out of MP. His magic elements are Darkness, Water and Ice. Most Comparable RPG Class/Character: Red Mages in Final Fantasy

Bill is one of the game’s squishiest characters but also one of the most powerful. He has the highest magic attack stat in the game, making his offensive spells absolutely devastating. The trade off is that his defense, magic defense and HP stats are VERY low, though his agility is at least decent. Heal him and restore his MP with items frequently to make the most of what he has to offer. His magic elements are Fire and Light. Most Comparable RPG Class/Character: Black Mages in Final Fantasy

Ford is best described as a jack of all trades but a master of none. Easily the game’s most versatile character, he basically has above average stats across the board but no real specialization to speak of. He joins the party late in the game and is designed to be used depending on the situation. Experiment with him and see what works best in different types of battles! He uses every magic element in the game. Most Comparable RPG Character: The protagonist of Persona 5
