As Mandy was about to go up the stairs to her room, she heard a light tap at the front door. Frowning, she turned and opened the door. Mandy’s eyes widened to see Stevie Robins standing before her, whole, healthy, and smiling. His color was good, his brown eyes happy. She peeked over her shoulder to see if her mom was nearby, but she wasn’t. Then she smiled at Stevie. The way he was supposed to look when he was a healthy little boy, who once lived with his mother. Thank you, Mandy heard the words in her head. Mandy gave a nod. Stevie began to walk away. He turned back once more and waved. Bobby says hello. Mandy waved back as her heart clenched, watching Stevie disappear in to the dark night.
