Utopic Blades – Power Balance

The calculation...
Every card has two important factors to know its power level: rank and cost.
I think it’s better to not increase too much the power level for greater costs to encourage players to think more, use by the best way their resources and make so that even if you draw low cost cards it will make its work.
Now for the math:
For units I use (4 + 0.7 * cost ^ 0.7) * 1.25 ^ (rank - 1)
And for spells I use (1 + 0.7 * cost ^ 0.7) * 1.25 ^ (rank - 1)
Why for spells is 1 instead of 4?
Since Utopic Blades have the really powerful engine of AFFINITY (that engine make you gain affinity points every time you cast a spell, then you can use those points to use your own abilities) I needed to reduce that value from 4 to 1 to prevent overpowered cards and encourage players to cast more often spells from their class.
Ahead for the important values
I use as base the following:
· HP = 1 power
· DMG = 1 power (ATK is calculated either as 2 DMG or 3 DMG depending on the time the card is on the field)
· DEF = 6 power (since it is supposed to block 2 DMG during 3 turns on the field)
· Remember that 4? [(4 + 0.7 * cost ^ 0.7) * 1.25 ^ (rank - 1)], yep that one. It represents the card instance power. It is basically the power it has automatically by being draw.
Now the cards…
Scouting Knight
Rank 1 – type: unit
Cost desired : 0; final: 0
ATK: 1
DEF: 0
HP: 2
No ability
The power desired is 4; final: 4
It has only 2 HP and for now i will guess it will last only 2 turns on the field after summoned.
If it will last 2 turns, it’s ATK of 1 means 2 power.
2 from HP + 2 from ATK = 4 Power --> exactly as wanted!
Final result (COST/ATK/DEF/HP/ability) --> 0/1/0/2/No ability
