So, last review I referenced a post about Pizza Sim's update which was originally going to be UCN, just an update to Pizza Sim alongside Endless Tycoon. In that update, there were mentions of console ports, which honestly blew me away. In fact I was so focused on console ports I had no idea there was a VR game even happening because of the thought of Five Nights At Freddy's on my PS4. I was an insane kid back then. Oh, and I guess I thought the series was truly done back then I don't know. My guess is that if the series were to continue, it would have been a reboot, I guess I was kinda right in that assumption, although at the time, no one thought this game was a reboot.
My point here is I had no fucking clue what Help Wanted was and when I saw the teaser, I was really invested in it and wanted to know more.
"Everything is working as intended!" -Fazbear Entertainment.
I thought this was going to be another sit and survive game, maybe about a warehouse with the main cast all being melted together. Maybe there was more to the story that hadn't been told yet. Oh, and this was removed for having renders taken online, one of them is literally of Popgoes Spring Bonnie and I find that fucking hilarious for some odd reason.
No, I won't be reviewing the old Popgoes stuff, at most, I'll talk about my experience with Popgoes 2016 and the original Popgoes Arcade whenever I get to Popgoes Reviews. The Funtime Foxy render was taken off the internet as well and there was a post about Scott commending the community for their awesome work, which was nice.
Back to the teaser, it was taken down, however, there were more teasers, just hidden away in the source code. Actually diving deep led to some... actually pretty cool stuff in my opinion. This was basically a mini ARG within ScottGames website.
We had fucking Circus Baby in the Fnaf 4 bedroom, basically proving more experiment theory to the world, but when it comes to the story of this game, I can see why people brushed it off, I'll get to the story of this game way later though.
I'll be talking about models later but I honestly didn't care about the models, I legit thought this was the coolest thing ever. Springtrap looked so fucking cool here and the graphics looked great, and was that a coffee machine? That wasn't there in the original Fnaf 3.
Next up, we have Chica getting gassed. One of my friends made a joke about Chica farting, I was more worried about how Chica was missing her arm and hand, and the cupcake was nowhere in sight. Also the setting looked completely different from anything we had seen, was this the kitchen?
I legit was hyped about this, I thought we were withering the Classic animatronics or building the Classic Animatronics. I thought this game was going to jump around and answer a whole bunch of questions about the series.
I can't believe they made the Funko Plushies canon. I also can't believe they made better versions than the actual Funko Plushies.
Like, who hurt her?
And why is this worse somehow?
And I had no idea what this was. I theorized about this every day. I thought it was a Springlock Endo, I thought it was Ennard without the mask, I thought it was a fucking amalgamation of characters coming together. And now that I think about it, I don't know if we EVER found out what this was, I completely forgot if we cracked the code on this.
I am now just getting information that this is a creative engineering mech so that's cool I guess. Real animatronics rock.
If I'm being honest, I thought we would be playing as William Afton and we would be stuffing a child into the suit, this was also the point where I realized that the graphics were 3D. Like it was made in Unreal Engine. I thought Scott was experimenting with Unreal Engine. Of course, I later found out a small company was taking on the role of this game and that's when I took more interest than I already was.
I talked a lot about these teasers, even when they were also removed during the whole stolen renders debate. I thought this was the coolest thing ever and I also decided to look more into Steel Wool Studios, who were helping Scott make the VR game. I played some of their games, they were interesting. Nothing to write home about, but I do find myself going back to them sometimes, just looking at videos of them at least. They were a small company that I had never heard of, and they were taking on something as big as Fnaf, so I was interested to see how this went.
And, of all things, I found out that it was going to be on fucking Playstation VR. I should have expected this because it was a VR game. But when that first teaser dropped of it being a VR game, I was more than hyped.
I was so fucking hyped for this game, it's insane. An actual VR game of Fnaf?!? What would it even be about?!? When the trailer dropped at that State Of Play, I was creeped the fuck out.
https://youtu.be/FnB4aGfF100?si=IxZ4ZxQxJRm2echu
The way some of my favorite characters looked so huge and made me feel so small at the same time was... surreal. I was head over heels for this game and replaying it now, I still like this game. Maybe not as much as I liked it back then, but I honestly thought for a company's first game with the franchise, it was actually really good. Nowadays, now that they have a better handle on the series, this game kinda lacks in comparison, but I still enjoy the heck out of it.
https://youtu.be/x3XkLqxiTSg?si=wnBkC0e5w9j09x30
And then the launch trailer dropped and featured a curse word, that was crazy. Of course, YTber's got it a day early so that means spoiling from FusionZGamer, but I wasn't so lucky enough to be able to play it. I had a PS4, not a PSVR. I only got to play Help Wanted WAY LATER when I got it on my PS4 during the Flat Mode era. I also played the mobile port for the game. Yes, I have the mobile port for the game and I played that too just for this review.
Before I actually do more in depth, shout out to Triple A Fazbear wiki, which is a wiki for basically everything after UCN, they were kinda a big help for this review and I would just like to thank them for not having me go around the Fnaf wiki for VR renders and everything.
Gameplay:
Let's start with the most important aspect, the gameplay. Every video game has to have good gameplay, right? And here... the game delivers pretty good gameplay in my opinion.
Unlike the last games, this game actually has a hub world. Crazy huh? A hub world in a Five Nights At Freddy's game.
Oh yeah, and Helpy's back. Helpy's awesome, just wanted to get that out of the way. The hub world allows you access to basically all the levels in the game. You can replay Fnaf 1, 2, 3, and 4 but in VR, you can play certain minigames like Funtime Auditorium, and the Fun with BB and Plushtrap minigames... but in VR. There is also brand new minigames as well, such as repairing the core Fazbear 4, Vent Repair has two minigames with both Mangle and Ennard, and even Night Terrors, which is just Fnaf 4, has brand new minigames as well with Funtime Freddy, Circus Baby, and Nightmarionne. Nightmare Fredbear is, well, Nightmare Fredbear. Both Nightmare Fredbear and Nightmarionne have basically been nerfed to all hell to be more fair since this is in VR and they don't move as fast anymore. Funtime Freddy actually has you looking around the main bedroom to deal with Bonnet while also going up to doors to deal with Bon Bon, which can disorient you and allow Funtime Freddy to get closer to you if he can. So basically... the Fnaf 4 gameplay has been made slightly better with both Nightmarionne and Funtime Freddy.
Circus Baby is completely different, you are hiding in the closet and Circus Baby is coming after you. She will see you and then rush towards you and you have to shut the closet door. If she's far away, don't shut it right away, wait till she gets closer and then shut the door. You can open the door while she is there, but you have to be quick if you don't want to get jumpscared. You can't close the doors forever or the Plushbaby's will kill you.
Speaking of which, meet one of the two brand new characters in Help Wanted, at least for the main mode: The Plushbaby's.
Yeah, these fucking things, there's three of them. One that looks like CB, one that looks like CB but blue clothing and shoes, and one that looks like CB but with yellow clothing and shoes and is missing an eye. They even have Scrap Baby variants.
If you are wondering how this works, I'll explain in the story section of the review. The plushbabies show up in Circus Baby's Night Terror's level and will kill you if you keep the closet door closed for too long. They also have their own level, in which you have to hunt them down with a flashlight so they don't kill you. You are in the prize corner, it's completely different from basically the entire series. You have a battery on your flashlight that recharges so you need to use the light as sparingly as possible while also making sure you find all three plush babies, all four of them. Yeah, secret fourth one that hides in cabinets. And the minigame can be hard at first but once you get into a pattern of finding all three plush babies in a row you can basically ace it every time.
Sorry for all you people who think the main three games are going to be updated, they only have small modifications. For Fnaf 1, Bonnie and Chica can attack you while they are going to the hallway corners if you shine the light on them. Freddy now can never leave your doorway when he's closest to it so now you have to juggle him while making sure you don't run out of power. You can also see the characters so you don't have to turn on the lights. If you look out into the hallways, either hallway. Foxy will automatically run at you and try to kill you. You can survive but you have to be tight. Nothing really changes with the main gameplay... aside from the animatronics can actually move on the cameras as fun little gifs WAIT A MINUTE?!?
WHY THE FUCK DO WE NEED THIS I CAN JUST PLAY HELP WANTED?!?
This will be my only Real Time jab I ever make... probably.
For Fnaf 2, it's mostly the same, except the Withereds aren't really active. In fact, it was originally just Fnaf 1 Foxy before an update added an entire mode for the Withered animatronics. My guess was that they thought having the Withereds would mess things up or they didn't know how the Withereds would look like or something else idfk why the Withereds weren't there. An update later added them and now everything is right in the world I think. Toy Freddy actually walks into your office In Real Time so we have Fnaf 2 In Real Time so another reason to not play Fnaf 1 IRT and just get Help Wanted. The characters also move on the cameras and in the Hallway as well In Real Time, crazy huh. Mangle also now can attack from the center hallway and it's fucking crazy. Like she actually climbs through the hallway onto the ceiling it's so cool. When Withered Foxy, Toy Bonnie, Toy Chica, Mangle, or Balloon Boy are in the vents or for Withered Foxy, the hallway, the Fnaf 1 alarm sound will play so you can scare them off by wearing the mask or flashing the light. Balloon Boy also runs into the office as he leaves, which is cool.
The Puppet also now walks at you during the hallway, and this is how you get a coin, one of the few collectables in the game. The Puppet also comes out of her box and you can even see it wind up in the cameras, like they have a little lever that can turn sometimes. It's cool.
Fnaf 3 has some minor changes, Springtrap is heavily nerfed and is now pretty stupid lmfao. It's now easier to stall him in one camera and you can just spam reboot all now with no consequences which is funny. I don't think they thought a lot about Fnaf 3 outside of just, making Springtrap a bit easier. There's nothing wrong with that, one of the reasons that really kept me from enjoying Fnaf 3 was that Springtrap in later nights could be extremely unfair at times. Here... now he's too easy. The Phantoms are also different, Phantom Chica and Puppet are gone, rest in peace. Phantom Mangle is now like Phantom BB but in the vents, Phantom Freddy and Foxy are now Fnaf 1 models but edited.
OH RIGHT THE MODELS!!! Controversial topic and take, but I actually think the models in this game can be goated at times.
Like yeah sure, they have different textures and they can sometimes appear lighter than usual, but they aren't bad in terms of designs.
Something I really like about the Help Wanted models, and I don't know if they all have this, but some of the characters have certain scratches and marks on the models, they all look really cool... for the most part.
Here's a model that looks good.
Withered Freddy looks like he has been ripped straight out of Fnaf 2, the attention to detail on the character fucking rules.
Here's a character that doesn't look that good, but I wouldn't say bad:
Now there's nothing inherently wrong with Baby's model. She has her hair, her faceplates, her shoes, everything. One problem... she's not really that shiny. Sure, you can't notice it in the game, but compared to her other appearances... she's not really that shiny like she usually is.
And here's Springtrap:
What... what happened? I don't think I need to go in depth on why Springtrap sucks as a model, just look at him.
So the models are all over the place, they can be good, they can be bad. They can have different coloring, and they can have glaring inconsistencies to the previous incarnations. They're cool and not cool at the same time is basically what I'm trying to say.
Now you might be wondering why I am skipping on a certain character, well I still have sections, so I will get to his section later. Anyway, there is still more gameplay we have to do, I never did discuss... Blacklight mode. Or Hard Mode... was there ever an official name for that? I actually don't know, but I'll swap between them because why not. Anyway, for Blacklight mode, the levels have been remixed to be slightly harder, Fnaf 1, 2, and 3 have their Night 5's, Dark Rooms has harder versions (as if Funtime Foxy's mode isn't fucking horrifying to play already) of it's games, with Plushbabies becoming the Plush Scrap Babies. Recolored animatronics that appear, Vent Repair introduces Shadow Mangle as a thing and Ennard's minigame is upside down and disorienting, and Night Terror's... is a messed up representation of how William Afton lured Gabriel. That's... huh.
But yeah, it's basically hard mode, the games are slightly harder and you need to focus more, which is actually... fun. You also get Withered Mode in Blacklight mode so you can now go up against the Withered Animatronics. It's cool.
Now I mentioned Funtime Foxy's minigame as scary. Uhm, let me just say that I am not ashamed to admit, I did not beat Funtime Foxy in VR. I used Flat Mode, which is a thing. Flat Mode was introduced later on as a way to play the games without VR and it works fairly well in my opinion. I played this on the PS5 so maybe I had controller support on my side. But both modes of Funtime Foxy fucking scare me. I have never been this, and have still never been this scared to play something since I was 9 and Night 5 of Fnaf 1 horrified me. I could only do it in Flat Mode and that's how I beat it. This was my Flat Mode segway, I don't really have much to say outside of Flat Mode is fine and it works well. Help Wanted itself is actually pretty fun in my opinion. Sure, it doesn't do anything outrageous like some people would hope for, like fixing the problems of Fnaf 1 (people don't like Fnaf 1 for some reason, that's weird) Fnaf 2, and Fnaf 3 and I guess by association, Fnaf 4. But I actually think putting them in VR actually does fix these games a bit, sure, some things still aren't perfect, but the original games were never perfect anyway. Obviously, that's not an excuse for not including the Withered Animatronics in the Main Fnaf 2 or nerfing Springtrap to all hell in Fnaf 3, but I think the games are fine and they still feel like Fnaf 2 and 3 at the end of the day. And Fnaf 1 was always good, Fnaf 4 even got an upgrade in my eyes.
Now of course, I just couldn't jump to the jumpscares right here, I could never forget about the DLC, Halloween is just right around the corner and it's time for Dreadbear to rise from his grave. Of course, I couldn't just not include the DLC in this review. It's time for!
Curse Of Dreadbear:
Help Wanted would soon get DLC teasers that would eventually be revealed to be the Curse of Dreadbear DLC. The DLC came out there were some things locked but for the most part, it was all playable. You had a Halloween Hub that would introduce some lore and the DLC was more centered around Five Nights At Freddy's 4. Hell the Fnaf 4 house was in the background of the hubworld.
Not the best picture but you get the idea. The Fnaf 4 house is in the background, you have minigames tied with Fnaf 4, it was more Fnaf 4 centered. Also as you can see, the Plush Babies returned for some reason. Afraid of The Dark has Plushkin Patch, Captain Foxy's Pirate Ride, and Corn Maze. Spooky Mansion has Hallway, Build a Mangle, Trick Or Treat, and Dreadbear. Danger Keep Out is basically a remixed Fnaf 1 map with the Halloween Animatronics. We do have some original animatronics joining the frey, might as well show off the Plushkins.
Yeah, they are the Plushbabies but with kookie looking masks of Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, Foxy, and BB. I think one of them might wear a Mangle one, I'm not sure. Something interesting about Plushkin Patch is the fact that you will get a random assortment of Plushkins each time. You could get Freddy, Chica, and Foxy on one attempt, and the next attempt it's Foxy, Chica, and BB. It adds a bit of replay value, although, Plushkin Patch is actually one where I understand the complaints. Plushkin Patch is actually pretty hard, so do yourself a favor, go on flat mode, crank your brightness to the max, and beat Plushkin Patch easy as pie. You do want to flash your light during that mode every now and then, not doing so will kill you. There's also distractions like random Plush Babies running around that are just to distract you.
Captain Foxy's Pirate Ride is a fun but a little nauseating, I actually prefer the minigame that will be talked about when I review Help Wanted 2. But it's still a fun minigame. You are basically on one of those light shooter rides like at DisneyLand, and you go through and eventually, you can find Helpy's around the map. Hitting them takes you to secret locations (one of them being the Fnaf 2 map for some reason) where you can get super mega points and get a high score. You can die in these areas, if you get zero points you get jumpscared by Captain Foxy himself.
It's just Foxy bit with Captain clothing, nothing special. He did get merch for some reason. The Jack-o Animatronics are also here. Corn Maze... I'll get to in a bit.
Hallway is basically Funtime Foxy but somehow slightly less scary for me. I can actually do this one in VR. You go up against the main four Nightmare Animatronics. Nightmare Bonnie and Chica will come at you through the sides and you are supposed to not get caught by them or you get jumpscared. Nightmare Foxy can occasionally appear ahead of you and when you see him, stop moving. Lightning will flash or you can see him moving in the dark, stop moving when the lightning flashes or he will run and jumpscare you. Nightmare Freddy will be behind you and will catch you just let him, so you need to keep moving. This... is really fun. You are always in danger thanks to Nightmare Freddy as soon as he spawns and it gets tight when you continue to go down. Nightmare Foxy can make the gameplay really fun. It's a great thing all around.
Build-A-Mangle is basically what it sounds like. You have to follow the instructions and gather the parts nessecary to build your own Mangle. Grabbing the wrong parts causes the actual Mangle to show up and jumpscare you. If you don't have enough parts for a "good enough" you get jumpscared. There are small little Freddles on the sides to scare you and hinder your progress, so you can shock them and then drop them in the pit to get killed. Trick Or Treat is basically a "Guess who is behind the door" minigame. You have to look through windows to find if one of the Withered Animatronics or Balloon Boy are at the door. Mangle is here too and she blocks you from viewing the windows, wear her mask if you see her and wear the mask of the character you think is at the door. Do this three times and win. Dreadbear's minigame is actually also cool, you have to give Dreadbear a brain, so you need to color it exactly, give it matching colors, shrink or grow it, and calibrate it to the right frequency. You are on a time limit and the power cuts off after a certain time, in which you need to pull down a lever, which shocks Dreadbear. Shocking him too much will kill you, ruin the brain or mess something up, you die. It's fun.
Danger Keep Out revolves around you in a ruined Fnaf 1 location where you have to defend yourself from the Jack-o's, newcomer Grim Foxy, and Dreadbear.
Yes, these guys do have good models and they are badass. To deal with these characters, when Bonnie and Chica are close, you press the light buttons to send them away. The doors don't work, and the light buttons produce a flash. Grimm Foxy is like Foxy, when he's at his final stage, press the light button to send him back. Dreadbear is an unstoppable character and can not be pushed back, you have to press the light button to constantly keep him at bay. You can do this when he is closest to your door, but look out, he is fast. I don't really have a lot of complaints about these modes outside of Plushkin Patch and the nausea of Captain Foxy's Pirate Ride, and even then, the nausea might just be me.
Corn Maze has you go up against Grimm Foxy once more but now in a large free roam area. This does give me motion sickness, but it's also... fucking scary in VR. Basically, your goal is to find keys to escape the maze, they are colored keys and are floating around. With each key you collect, Grimm Foxy gets faster. You can hide from Grimm Foxy by going into fun cutouts around the map. My best guess is when collecting the keys, when you have all four and you are tasked with finding the special key (I will delve into this later) since Grimm Foxy is so fast, find a cutout and if you hear him close to you, wait by that cutout for him to see you. Once he sees you, hide in the cutout and let him charge at you, this will let him despawn and you can then move around. Corn Maze may be motion sickness enducing, but it is the best part of the DLC. It's fun and the secret reward you get is really damn cool.
And... I think that's all of the gameplay. Overall, while the main game doesn't change much with the main series when adapting, the hard modes and the original minigames are truly great, and Funtime Foxy is horrifying in VR I stand by that. Dreadbear is also a great time and is one of the best parts of the game. I would say that Help Wanted has good gameplay, and there are a TON of Easter Eggs to be found. Some I might talk about in the story section, others I will not. But man, there are a ton of really fun Easter Eggs in this game.
Jumpscares:
Help Wanted's Jumpscares are pretty good. Nothing spectacular but are pretty good. This section have gotten shorter and shorter as reviews go on but luckily, there are gifs of the jumpscares thank god.
Okay so right off the bat, you see that they immediately jump to a black background when being jumpscared. Now, I'm no VR developer, so I have no idea why this happens, and some people say this breaks the immersion. And yes, the jumpscares aren't really that good, they aren't all shaking in your face and ripping your guts out, but tbh, I find them fine. The jumpscares work well for the game and the black void never bothered me with the jumpscares.
Her jumpscare is actually quite good though, I will say that. And it's not like they are all always in a black background... well they are, but for some reason in Circus Baby's Jumpscare, the closet is actually part of her jumpscare.
It's a little weird and makes you question why the others don't have something like this. I don't know and I don't really mind much. The jumpscares are fine, the screams are reused or edited to be slightly different, and there's a ton of variations of jumpscares for you to get and they're all pretty cool.
https://youtu.be/bQh0uQ5fjJM?si=u0LSlBdVnnnNt0ML
Here's a video showing them all, which is something I might be doing now so you all can see every jumpscare. Anyway, time for the next section... The Story.
Story:
Alright, time for controversial takes... this story is fine.
Nothing groundbreaking at all and some people will consider it pretty meta, but it's an interesting story for the series and it's something I can actually see happening and it actually has a lot of cool elements that get expanded upon in the later games, specifically AR of all games.
Now there is a cutscene to this game, and it's a pretty cool cutscene.
Your on a Freddy Fazbear coaster seat and you go into the void of Fazbear Entertainment which it explains a lot of things. But for starters, the game calls itself the "Freddy Fazbear Virtual Experience". Weird but okay, might as well hear it out.
"We know that Fazbear Entertainment have developed somewhat of an unwanted reputation over the past few decades. And while it's true that some stories associated with our name are loosely based on actual events."
Sure Handunit, only some stories.
"The majority of them are total fabrications of the mind of a complete lunatic. lawsuits pending. But we're not above laughing at ourselves. Ha. Ha. Ha. That's why we have recreated many of these completely fictitious scenarios-lies-that you have been fed over the past several years, into a hilarious VR game."
... what?
Yeah, meta huh? Game is aware it's a game. So is this Fnaf World? Nope. It's just Fazbear Entertainment being Fazbear Entertainment. Covering up their past, but this time with this fancy new VR headset. Wow! Now the game does actually play itself like you are progressing through a video game. HandUnit comes in to tell us about the development of the game and how a previous development team had a bad time with the game, etc etc. It treats itself like a game, so... does this mean that everything else in the past is fictitious and should not be trusted as actual canon? Nope. Stopping you right there, just because the games are being foretold as fictitious scenarios, doesn't make the previous events not canon. It's like the Scream Franchise, one of the recent movies had an in-universe movie as well, not undoing the past events of the franchise. Hell, this is brought up again later. Your main collectables in this game are tapes, they are scattered throughout the game and your goal is to find them and learn from "Tape Girl" a new character that only showed up in this game. She guides you through the troubled development of this game as well as an unknown entity. Who is this entity? Glitchtrap!!!... or Malhare... not even Scott likes the name Glitchtrap so call him whatever you want.
What can I say that hasn't already been said? This guy is an awesome design. He has reused Tape girl voice lines, slowed down and distorted, like he's... mimicking someone. It's obvious who this is... William Afton.
Yeah I believed it was William, there were some people out there who thought it was just a copy of Afton and honestly, that made more sense than it being Afton's spirit coming back. A lot of people believed it was William and can you blame them? The mobile port of the game brings up Princess Quest, the first appearance of it, and has a code that says "I always come back". Like it was screaming that it was Afton. There weren't any signs to say it wasn't until the later games anyway, and there are people who still thinks it's Afton anyway. Scott really thought long and hard about this and decided to not have the DLC clear the air about what this thing is, Afton, a digital replica, or something else. Either way, Glitchtrap is cool and everything and he's pretty damn scary your first time looking at him. With him just standing there or waving at you. He's cool.
Now as you collect the tapes, you learn about a beta tester named Jeremy who was working on the game. That's Jeremy number 3. Jeremy Fitzgerald, Jeremy MCI, and Jeremy VR... crazy world we live in. I don't think Jeremy Fitzgerald and Jeremy VR are the same person, I think Scott just likes the name Jeremy. Anyway, Jeremy has nightmares, is beta testing the game, and then gets his face sliced off... jesus christ. We don't see it, but my god, I didn't know Fnaf had the balls to slice off someone's face. Anyway, Tape Girl goes into beta testing now which is when she discovers Glitchtrap and starts making logs. The tapes are out of order so my ramblings about these are probably also out of order but I don't care. She also goes over something that I must bring up when talking. A tape talking about Fazbear Entertainment hiring an indie game developer to make a set of games, and then the VR game is going to cover up that set of games... what?
So yeah, as mentioned earlier, the past is being covered up. This is all part of a large scheme by Fazbear to get a clean slate. EVERYTHING IN THE LAST GAMES HAPPENED! The Afton Family happened, murders happened, everything happened. The children are free, Afton is dead, it's over. The events were just told as games so Fazbear Entertainment could cover it all up. One giant ass cover up featuring video games. Fazbear Entertainment is known to cover things up in the past with the animatronics, the Toys being possessed, the main animatronics being possessed, all covered up. And people believed it, falling for Fazbear Entertainment's lies. I guess it did work after all...
Anyway, Malhare attaches to Tape Girls logs and effectively makes himself unkillable doing so, so she splits them up and hopes we won't find them... we do find them. We bring Glitchtrap back and the final tape tells us of a way to kill him, he needs to merge with us, go through us, before we can do a hard reset of the game and flush the memory. To do that, there is a switch embedded on the console of the hub where we select minigames. Now, a lot of people don't know how to do this, because it is pretty hard to do. Here is a consistent method. Watch Glitchtrap's eyes, as soon as they turn red, press the showtime button and press the button on the back of the console. You have 1-3 seconds before you fail and you have to press the console button immediately after you hit the showtime button. This is a consistent method and anything else in the hub is useless. When we do this correctly, we are trapped... we failed. Or Tape Girl lied to us, I don't actually know. There are a lot of theories where Tape Girl is controlled through Malhare to do this because she failed as well, or we just did something wrong and Glitchtrap got us anyway. Point is, we are now under his control. We also get a plushie of him in the home world.
Now, you may be asking "Is there lore in the main game that can link to the past?" and yes, there's actually a few things to talk about, especially with Dreadbear. But some of these things are hard to see if they are canon or not because of how the game is. It's a game that's entire goal is to confuse you about the past, so yes, I do believe there is some truth to the things shown in the game, but at the same time, they could be false because of how the game is designed. I do think that stuff like Withered Bon Bon or Shadow Mangle don't exist and are just video game concoctions. Anyway, Curse of Dreadbear introduces quite a lot of stuff, and there's a ton of Easter Eggs. For starters, the hub world switch is still there and pressing it can grant you a ton of Easter Eggs, one of Glitchtrap dancing, the car lights behind you turning purple, and I think Dreadbear looming over the Fnaf 4 house, which is nice. But this also introduces us to "FallFest 83." FallFest is a constant thing introduced in both this game and it's sequel, which I will review eventually. The masks the bullies wear are here, you can go to Fnaf 2 in Pirate Ride... for some reason. I don't know the lore significance behind it, but the main big lore important feature here... is a white rabbit mask.
You get this by going through Corn Maze, collecting all keys, grabbing a glitchy fifth key, heading back to where you first spawned, and going down into a cellar to grab the mask. You put it on, your breathing slows, and you are kicked back to the title screen. Going back to the main hub will reveal the mask at the counter, holding the Glitchtrap Plushie and wearing the mask will prompt a female voice of the character your playing as to speak, saying that she made something and she won't let someone down, and it will be fun. Setting up the most missed potential in anything ever according to Chazington.
Anyway, the story is fine. It's quite meta and I'm pretty sure people are turned off by it, but I don't have a problem with it, and it sets up the next big game in the series quite nicely.
Conclusion:
Five Nights At Freddy's VR: Help Wanted is the first game without Scott at the helm, giving it to Steel Wool Studios and it was a great first impression in my eyes. Playing it again after all these years there's still a big level of charm and fun to be had, especially with Dreadbear, seriously it's the highlight of the game. Doesn't mean the main game isn't bad either. The story is fine, the gameplay is fun despite not changing much with the VR versions of the games and what it does change can be considered downgrades, but it makes up for it in the original minigames you can play. Overall, I love Help Wanted and since Steel Wool is continuing with the franchise, I can't wait to see what's next in store for them with Five Nights At Freddy's. Fnaf Rescue and Search or something I don't know.
Anyway, I've rambled on long enough, join me next time as we tackle... oh, you thought it was going to be Security Breach. LOUD INCORRECT BUZZER DUMBFUCK! THAT'S NOT THE NEXT GAME! IT MAY HAVE SHUT DOWN BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN I CAN'T TALK ABOUT IT.
NEXT UP IS FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY'S AR: SPECIAL DELIVERY!
This is gonna be me waffling about this game, see you then!
