Five Nights at Sonic's Reimagined Lore Solved?

(IMAGE FROM FNASR DOOM (ROBLOX))

FNASR is a series with a lot of gaps in its lore that haven't been quite revealed to us yet (unlike FNAS, which will go out of its way to spoonfeed you absolutely anything and everything) and even misconceptions about it. This is all because the third installment hasn't even come out yet and it's been almost 10 years, but the pieces we have so far along with FNAS3R's demo including enough bits of gameplay and lore (beyond the 3rd Night) can bring us closer to finding out the truth behind its story.

Getting started with SEGA's Funhouse, it's the most mysterious of the SEGA locations (solely because FNAS3R isn't out yet but I digress) and we currently know very little about it so we can only speculate. But according to FNAS3R's phone calls, the place had androids and somebody had been murdered inside the building, forcing the place to close off and have everything moved to the first SEGA Inc. location.

As for where SEGA's Funhouse and SEGA Inc. are within the timeline, we weren't given anything on either of them but we can go off of FNAS2R's placement in the timeline along with its Night 1 phone call. According to that, the Phone Guy's death was 5 years ago by the time of FNAS2R and considering the game takes place in 2020, there's no other spot for FNAS1R in the timeline than in 2015.

However, it's not impossible to also find a potential placement for SEGA's Funhouse, as in FNAS3R's first night phone call, the phone guy makes a statement where it's been "at least 20 years" since their last major project. This has plenty of implications, but this also implies that SEGA's Funhouse could have been opened in 2010 and closed in at least late-2015. This is more plausible as according to FNAS3R's later training tapes, they moved to the new Sega Inc. location as the Funhouse was closing down.

When Sega Inc. had opened, they celebrated the opening with a cookoff but Tails got burnt after getting too close to the grill, so he had to be scrapped. Sonic & Knuckles also malfunctioned at some point so they were scrapped as well. The Phone Guy was killed by Sonic. There was some speculation on this, but Sonic's Night 5 phone call in FNAS2R makes it very clear it was him who caused the murder. Ronald Hernandez takes the night shift at Sega Inc. from December 20th to December 25th 2015. Sega Inc. then closed down, likely as a result of the disappearance.

5 years later, the new Sega Inc. was opened. FNAS2R introduces two new elements to the lore that are likely connected to eachother, Sega's Funhouse and... another character we'll soon get into.

Shadow the Hedgehog. FNASR's most mysterious character by far, and a character who was unseen by fans for over 9 years. Dark wasn't the one who burnt down Sega Inc., it was Shadow. But how? It can't be, right? I used to believe it was Dark too, but I soon learnt otherwise.

Allow me to break it down for you. There are several reasons why it never could've been Dark who burnt down Sega Inc. in the first place.

image.png

Dark is a very peculiar character, as it seems that not only he doesn't have any bearing on FNASR's lore as we know it, but it's as if he was never meant to exist. Originally in FNAS1R, it was just Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Super. Dark only got added to the roster from the revamped version onward.

He wasn't even in FNAS2R either until later updates, he was even more of a last minute thought in Sanic's head than Omochao. Even if it was Dark who caused the fire, why would he appear in normal gameplay alongside the other characters? It makes even less sense knowing the androids were quaking in their damn boots when they saw the "dark figure" and went horseshit on customers/patrons and even more so on the night guard, trying to take him down with them.

To put the Nail in the coffin, in FNAS3R's later nights, you can see that Dark had been destroyed in the fire along with the others, whereas the "dark figure" escaped from the new Sega Inc. as it began to burn down.

image.png

Also, speaking of Dark, he originated from this piece of art by ss2sonic published on Deviantart on June 15th, 2011 (predating even Sonic.exe himself by nearly 2 months). Here, he's a version of Dark Sonic that was inspired by Evil Ryu. (Oh and PLEASE do not check out the artist since a majority of their artwork are literally goonerslop.) ss2sonic also likely contributed in creating the original Dark model seen in FNAS1R.

Speaking of the dark figure in FNAS2R, here's concrete proof that it was Shadow. This image practically speaks for itself, and if that isn't even enough for you, there's two more images in FNAS3R's source code that proves Shadow's existence.

image.png

Even more so, Shadow was introduced at the same time as Sega's Funhouse which means he could've been one of the androids from that location. This may be a reach, but the name of the night guard in FNAS2R is "Gerald Williams". If this isn't subtle foreshadowing, then I don't know what is.

But why? What were his motives? Well, considering Shadow's backstory is (mostly) consistent across all official Sonic media and the fact somebody was murdered in Sega's Funhouse and this may be getting into the more speculative territory, but it wouldn't be too unrealistic for Shadow to have had a best friend named Maria who died at the hands of an employee or perhaps another android that's disconnected with the rest. This and having been abandoned caused Shadow to carry strong resentment towards Sega and becoming hellbent on vengeance and destroying everything it has.

Now then, who were the other Sega's Funhouse androids? That we don't know, but if SEGA's Funhouse is anything like Fredbear's Family Diner, we can also assume there was a Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles (and hell, perhaps even Super) back then. This isn't impossible to believe as we should remember that Shadow only killed the new androids from the New Sega Inc. and Team Sonic just happened to have been caught in the crossfire between all of this. Even in FNAS2R's secret (unused?) minigame with Sonic & Tails, they were still seemingly alive mere moments before the fire had occurred. Shadow's relation with Team Sonic could also be why Shadow never went for their heads in FNAS1R. In conclusion, Shadow perhaps doesn't have any direct resentment towards them, but he also doesn't care about them whatsoever.

Truthfully, this will be all we ever know until FNAS3R finally comes out, and so this is all I've got. Thank you for reading this.
