I wasn't a fan of fnaf in 2014 but that doesn't mean I don't know what characterized FNaF at that time.
A horror game that doesn't use Blood to scare you, but Jumpscares and a terrifying and claustrophobic Environment and the mysterious secret like hallucinations, Golden Freddy, strange sounds, ETC.

Well those things were what characterized FNaF for being a very original horror game in its time and in some principle was not intended for children, in 2014 FNaF was not even something childish.
And so it continued from FNaF 1 to 6, in UCN the terror decayed (well actually FNaF 3 decayed but FNaF 4 revived it).
The games showed stronger things like the murders, the death of William, blood, the death in the scooping room in SL and in the most recent game: FNaF Into the Pit showed more violence and blood.
So what happened how come FNaF for many is now 'Childish'?
This is just my opinion but I feel that it all started because of:
Security Breach
I don't know about you but since that game came out I felt that the focus of FNaF changed completely and it became a more childish product, it even looks like another mascot horror game that just wants to make merchandise.
*cough cough ''Poppy Playtime'' cough cough*.
And more considering that security breach was even censored and Steam refers to this game as ''A Family Horror Game''.
Someone here can explain to me since when horror is for the whole family ????? when there are many people who believe that horror is of the devil, they think it looks familiar even if it is ''horror''?
In the SB: Ruin tried to fix this but it felt almost the same as security breach, and what hurts me the most, is that part of that infantilization remained in the movie...
Why?

It seemed like the classic terror of FNaF was gone, until Into the Pit and TJOC Ignited Collection came out, and those games are scary and it made me feel like maybe the terror of FNaF wasn't completely gone.
And finally the next game Secret of the MIIIIIMIIIIC.
Ok it looks like Poppy playtime a little bit but there is some hope that game in the trailer you can see a darker atmosphere reminiscent of the classic FNaF atmosphere And in the recent interview with Dawko it was revealed that it will have a claustrophobic atmosphere, There is still hope that the classic horror of FNaF will return, I just hope they don't ruin it with FNaF: SOTM, like they did with Security breach,
Conclusion: FNaF 1-HW is not horror for kids, it didn't even start as a game made for kids, but since the release of Security breach is what it has sadly become lately, what they did with that game is unacceptable.
I hope that the classic terror will come back in the next games, and that the second FNaF movie will feel like a horror movie.
