Follow-up #1: Radio silence

Hey guys!

I’m sorry for the radio silence since the latest update. Life has its ways of shitting all over you, and I’m not a fan of that (it’s fine if you are though!).

The Scufflers development has started again, as you can see and follow on my Twitter account. Basically, there are three things that are going to happen in the upcoming weeks:

  • complete rework of the match scene: the code is buggy, the objects hierarchy in Unity is fucked up, and it leads to all kinds of bugs (like this one… what the fuck is happening to you, Heracles?!) and makes me code hacks over hacks, so it needs to be completely rethought, rewritten and stuff; plus, I want to make rope physics better;

  • entirely new menus: menus suck. To be completely transparent on that, they’ve been put together in half a day, right before the first release, and they follow Smash Bros. conventions which are definitely not suited for PC gameplay. I already designed about 75% of the new menus and they should get included this week-end, if everything goes according to plan;

  • graphics: this is something nobody has requested and it makes me really happy: nobody said “your pixel art sucks” (which it does) or “that’s an ugly-ass game” (which it is). But still, I’ve been intrigued by Depixelizing pixel art (pdf) and I found Depixelizer on Android, made by awesomely skilled and courteous guys, and I love the result. You’ll be able to toggle between native pixel art and depixelized version, but it requires to 1. make both versions of sprites and 2. code it. In the meantime, I’ll only work with the depixelized version.

So well, that’s about it. Sorry for the long post, but now you know what’s happening.

Known issues

Unrelated, but for those of you who have trouble with GameJolt redirecting the keystrokes to the search bar on the top right, here is the fullscreen button:

Also, if you’re having trouble selecting characters and stage, the match configuration scene has tokens that you can put on characters (just like in Super Smash Bros.). Take the token by pushing Space and moving the cursor, move it above the character you want and release Space. Same for the stage token.

[EDIT]: added character selection to the known issue list.

Hi everyone! I started to create some environment props for my new video game, here is a cozy house in the forest. I'm planning to switch from Unity to Unreal... Let's see what new challenges I have to face. Made in Blender and Substance Painter.
