Friedrich's History is back! With it, there are a TON of sketches to show off for full-game content. So much, in fact, that I will only be focusing on the three major new characters: Goldenfriedrich, Fritterfalle, and Ella Vanilla! I also realized I forgot to post an Endoskelett sketch from an older post, so you'll get to see that + some new Endo stuff too!

GOLDENFRIEDRICH

Mr. Finger Lake himself! Originally, Goldenfriedrich was going to look a lot more boring, just being a palette swap of Friedrich (a palette swap of his OLD design specifically, which I already didn't like)

Transcript: Goldenfriedrich: Can approach from any door or vent. Will leave garble when in vent(?) Can occasionally start fires. Can send limbs through doors as distraction. Can warp inside office, must be clicked in time.

His mechanic is more or less unchanged from this description, just more refined I guess. Although I never did do the limb thing, which is a shame because it sounds kinda cool.

Interestingly, the next time I'd draw Goldenfriedrich would be his final design. His teeth are a bit more viscous, and his ears are smaller, but this is our guy!

Other sketches were done to mostly figure out how he'd look for certain mechanics. Here's concept art for him getting punched by Fritterfalle.

Here's a VERY ROUGH sketch of how GF would fit in the doors/vents with the other characters (I wanted them all to be visible at once)

And finally, here's concept art for his jumpscare. Aieee!!

FRITTERFALLE

Unlike Goldie, Fritterfalle went through a LOT more iterations to get him right. For one, take a look at his head in the mechanic concept.

Transcript: Pisstrap: Sits in office, will go through aggression stages on each flip. If left untouched for too long, will ????

Weirdly, for all the iterations he went through in both design and mechanic, both of these ended up being pretty close to the final version. However, clearly I didn't have a name in mind, as I called him "Pisstrap". This was from a super early concept of the game I had back in like 2018, where Alan's original name was gonna be "Pissboy Enema". Yeah. Not kidding. Wonder why I didn't go with that.

Anyhoo, moving on to actual designs, this was the first proper full-body drawing of Fritterfalle. You can see it was pretty different from his final design. Most notably, he had Bernard's weird rhino horn.

Here's another sketch of the new character designs, redone with a bit more simplicity since I knew I'd have to animate them.

Also, here's an uncensored version of a sketch I posted in the last Friedrich's History. This is the first instance of Fritterfalle's nifty interlocking texture.

One sketchbook later, here is a more finalized version of Fritterfalle. Pretty close to what we have now, although for some reason I kept wanting to put weird line things on his eyeball. I dunno what those are.

And here's his finalized design! I still love this sketch, he looks devious as hell.

Here are some concepts for him waking up in the office. I don't know why I drew him so weird here.

That's about it for Fritterfalle. Here's one more sketch that I never used for anything, but I'm posting it anyway because I think it goes hard.

ELLA VANILLA

Everyone's favorite yellow female nightguard employed at Friedrich's! Fun fact: Ella wasn't always going to be based on Vanessa. In fact, originally she was gonna be male! I changed my mind because I thought the Friedrich's universe could use some more ladies (besides a spherical chicken). Once I decided that, basing her on Vanessa seemed like an obvious choice.

I don't have any sketches from that era though. This is the first-ever sketch of Ella:

She looked a lot more...gremlin-esque?? I don't know what her damn problem is.

These next sketches pretty much finalized Ella's design, although they're from a time where I kept forgetting to draw her with ears for some reason.

Seriously, there's even an earless version of her custom night head. Why did I keep forgetting her ears??

But yeah, that's about it for Ella. Here's one more drawing of her and Alan that I did for fun.

ENDOSKELETT

So, I forgot to post this sketch in the last post. It's the first-ever sketch of his final design, so I thought it was pretty important! Here ya go.

As a bonus, here's a sketch of his jumpscare.

And some concepts of how he'd look in the game over screens.

That's it for Friedrich's History this time! But there's a LOT more I can show off in the future. Old designs of secret characters, minigame sketches, UI sketches. Some old versions of songs, as well as totally new songs that went unused! I could even show off some of the prototype builds!!
