Future Plans, Progress, and What's Happening? (Month #1)

Hey everyone, I thought it might be a good idea to give large monthly updates on the game as it would motivate me to create stuff and make progress so I can post this on schedule, and infrequent enough that I don't feel like I'm rushing myself and take my time when creating stuff for the game and the monthly updates. So from now on, on the 9th of every month, I will make a detailed post like this one updating everyone on the game's progress. I still will make smaller updates here every now and then though. With that being said, what's going on with this game?

PROGRESS

As people who check up on this project should know, this game is currently in production, the camera rooms are being drawn (I'm 2/16 of the way there rn), and the game is in a very early stage of development. A prototype build has been created, but it's very barebones and is still missing a ton of features.

Some things I have not mentioned yet is that the opening cutscene is being storyboarded, and the main menu has been created and programmed.

(Below is the placeholder main menu that has a concept image of what will be in the real main menu)

FUTURE STUFF TO EXPECT

  • Game page updates - This was to be expected as a lot of stuff for the game page that's here already was temporary and was going to be replaced anyways. Since I have been using gamejolt for a while now, I now know how to make things look a bit more professional, so the games description will be updated and look much nicer with better organization and graphics for each section of the description. I will also be adding a lot more detail about what this project is in it's description. This will be most likely done by the time this post goes live.

  • Trailer - After the opening cutscene is animated, a story trailer will be released, uploaded to my youtube channel, and shared on this game page to give people the basic premise of the game. Hopefully this will be done by Late November - Early December, don't quote me on that though.

  • Meeting your victims - After (possibly before if I don't finish it on time) the trailer is uploaded, I will reveal some of the animatronics in full, either in gameplay screenshots, or their own dedicated teaser. If things go better than planned, this will be done in October, if not, this will be done by Late November.

(Below is a teaser for one of them as well as the future banner of the page :])

  • Purgatory Freddy AI Test - This will happen whenever the camera rooms are drawn. This will be a completely closed off private test, meaning no one outside of the selected play test group will see the test. It will just be a way to test, refine, and optimize the ai and get it to do what it's designed to do and provide a template for how animatronics will behave. This will remain mostly behind doors aside from a few screenshots that will be made publicly.

  • Alpha Testing - After the AI test, I will work on making the other animatronics working, along with night transition screens, and time mechanics will be added. Then I will hold testing session on the alpha version of the main nights (Final, and Extra Nights will remain behind close doors for now). This test will be private but I will add more play testers for a specific amount of people who are interested in order to get the most feedback possible. Alpha Test Reservations will be announced publicly.

  • Visual Overhaul - I'm happy with this games visual style, but some aspects of how the art is handled is less than ideal, and might create future problems down the line. So I'm gonna redraw a lot of stuff to make sure things works, and looks as intended and maybe add some more visual flair. This will be done after Alpha testing, and will be the first thing that will be done when transitioning to the beta stage.

(Below is a screenshot of the most recent build with a lot of placeholder assets, but everything here is prone to change in the final product once I start redrawing everything.)

COMMUNITY CHANGES AND OTHER THINGS

These changes will be almost immediate, and happen right after this post goes live. I might also post a status update regarding my feelings about working on this game, or my feelings towards the fnaf community if I feel like doing so.

  • Updates and posts on this page will be handled much differently. I have been pretty frequent with updates and posting things on this page in regards to development. Mostly because I love keeping you guys updated on this project as there is a certain thrill to it. Now posts will still be made a lot more frequently, but smaller updates and posts will be posted less often and will probably be announcing things like a temporary change in development, or showing something silly that's related to the game (memes, funny glitches in development, silly art, etc.). This will be because of what I want to do with this project moving forward. I want to focus on getting the game done and showing you guys that things are being done rather just saying "Hey guys, I'm still doing things." Another reason for why I want to put less of an emphasis on smaller updates and posts is for the next thing below.

  • I want this game to build a small sub community and gain some attention. Now this sounds like I'm begging for attention, and while I am, it's for a reason. I'm hoping that this game will be my first published, non-shit post game. I want to work on video games as both a hobby and a job in the future, so I'm learning about the process of making a game and managing interest in a game. That will, sooner than later, involve managing a community of people who are a fan of the games I make. Since this is sort of a practice for the process that goes into making a video game, I also want to practice managing a community and keeping it engaged. So I want the attention with the purpose of learning how to work under pressure and solving ways to keep the community engaged. I also will be sharing medium-large updates of this to fnaf fan game oriented services and sites more often than I have been doing it and I don't want to clog up those places with useless junk.

MY FUTURE INVOLVEMENT WITH THE FNAF COMMUNITY HAS CHANGED...again

Didn't you already make a post addressing this?

Yeah I did, but I think I should offer an update to that decision and sorta take it back. I have grown exhausted with creating fan ideas and want to move on to different projects separate from fnaf, and enjoy the franchise and fan game scene more casually (and maybe help out others with their fan games), that much is true. However I realized something after making that statement. I'm sticking with and continuing with this game specifically to learn about making games and the entire process as well as stuff outside of the game itself. Not only that, but there are still many fields of game design that I haven't even touched yet, mostly that being designing spin-offs, sequels, and remakes.

Now I already briefly mentioned the idea of remaking this game once I learn how to make 3D, but honestly, I feel like this little fan-game can be much more than a jumping off point for a singular game. This can teach me how to design sequels too, and I do have an idea on what I want out of a sequel so why not plan one. Now while only time can tell if a sequel and remake actually happens. I will say that they are at least planned specifically for the purpose of learning how to design sequels and remakes and gain skills that I can bring over to creating works outside of fan games.

So yeah, while I'm not making a new original fan game, I will work on this fan game series for the purpose of learning.

That's all for now. Sorry for making this post so damn long, but I had a lot I wanted to cover. Some of these changes will be more immediate than others, but one thing is definitely certain, they will happen, 100% guaranteed. That's all for now, see you guys during the next updates.

I feel bad for not posting game related stuff for a while, so here is a sneak peek at part of the new office. I'm still working on the teasers, but atm, I want to focus on the project in general, so the teasers will come out whenever I feel like it lol
