Hello everyone! Long time no see.
Ever since the last progress report devlog A LOT has changed. I'd even consider saying that everything has.

For the past few months I was busy with:

  • Rewriting old code,

  • Making new designs for old UI,

  • Implementing new features,

  • Creating concepts of things for future updates.

This doesn't seem like a lot, but trust me, I was VERY busy.
And that's just on the programming side, our spriters and musicians have been working hard as well to deliver the best.

Anyhow, in this progress report I would like to present to you all the features that I'm happy with, and I think that are good enough to be shown. Let's begin!


A new loading screen - again!

This time, a simple design for a fast loading screen. The backbone of it changed a little, it still uses a cloud but this time it's private.
That means the loading and saving speed is faster than ever.


The main menu

First huge change, most of the graphics are different.
I think it looks much better than what it was before.

Both the UnderNews(TM) and user description buttons are gone. However, you can now edit your description (and much more) in the new Your Profile scene.

UnderNews is gone, but not forever. It will be most likely back in the future and some of YOU will be able to control it!


Daily Rewards

Completely redone. This time aimed for a simple design that works. You enter - you get your prize. No time wasted.

This design is not final. It will change at least one more time in the future as I have some huge plans for it.


Settings

Not much has changed here. Just a new setting called 'Privacy Options' which is probably going to be very useful for all the players.

There's a new Gamepad Controls Setup screen! Looks much more polished. Buttons mapping had not changed, yet.

Oh, yeah not sure if I ever mentioned it, but the game has full gamepad support. Although it's simple - it should work with most gamepads.


NEW Profile editor

Now, this, is epic. You can view your stats, change your description and modify your avatar here.
Now, it's not much, you might say. Oh, just wait for the future updates! It's the start of something huge.

You'll be able to change your profile background, create custom attacks for PvP, modify your battle loadout, manage your friends list and MUCH more.

Game-mode selection

All the fancy artwork is gone, for the better. In my opinion it looks way better this way (even tho this is such a simple menu).

Custom Games

Yay! It finally works!

You can now create custom games to play just with your friends or viewers.
Modify the settings to make the playthrough more fun or annoying! - For now there are only two settings but in the future we plan to expand this feature to it's absolute limits.

Party games / Minigames

I'm very sorry to all the "Froggit Clicker" fans, but the minigames are gone.
However they had been updated to work in multiplayer! - This is why I also mentioned party games. The minigames are gone, but not forever.

Party games are something huge. And for something this huge we need more time to bring you some fun 2D games as well as 3D ones! (Basically UNDERTALE styled Squid Games, lol)


Global features

Before we move on to the - exciting - overworld stuff, here's a few new additions:

Gamepad support

As mentioned before, gamepad support is a thing.
It's not the most advance gamepad support but it works. And it should work with most modern and old gamepads.

You can of course map buttons to your personal preference.


Friend activity

The game displays a message on top of your game screen whenever something important (related to your friends) happens.

Can be disabled/enabled in settings.


Global Save File

In addition of features like the Profile Customization something like this was important.

In a nutshell, you can save your progress almost anywhere (unless you are in-overworld, in this case you still must use the SAVE STAR).
Your progress is not stored on your computer but in a secure cloud, so that you will never lose any data.


Improved chat

The overworld chat needed an upgrade.
Now it supports colors, emojis, commands and custom effects.

The new chat can be controlled using both keyboard and/or mouse.
It has also gotten a visual overhaul.

Emojis

Probably the most useless feature of the whole chat..
They are only visible in the normal chat, best viewed in fullscreen.

NOTE - Ever since I recorded this GIF, I made the emojis bigger so that they're easier to see!

Bubble chat

As you probably noticed, we've added a new feature called the bubble chat! This makes reading chat messages a thousand times easier.

Inspired by Club Penguin, we think that this is the one and only way of making a good chat dedicated for RPing.

You can send longer messages in this advanced chat menu!

Oh? You didn't get to read the chat bubble, and want to see the whole message? Just hover your mouse over that message in the chat!

What's in options?

Change the font's color to ANY color! Make it wavy or dizzy, or maybe if you're roleplaying, make the message about yourself! (for example: dies).

NOTE - the wavy effect is not actually that fast, I don't know why the gif makes it look like that.


Stickers

Stickers are a new feature to help you express your feelings!
As of now, there are 5 different packs of stickers with various UNDERTALE and DELTARUNE characters, and we plan to expand the list in the future.

Most of the packs are free but some are locked and need to be unlocked with GOLD.


Player Profiles

Remember the profile editor from earlier? Yeah, it has a purpose.
Simply double click (or get close with someone, and press [TAB]) on someone to check out their profile!

Add friend

You can add ANYONE as your friend, as long as their privacy options allow that.

So this is more of a... stalk thing. If you add someone, they WON'T know that you added them, unless they add you back (then, a message "You both are friends!" will appear).

As mentioned before, when you add someone to friends, their status will be shown whenever it updates.

Message

Private messages! We all love them!
You can PM anyone, again, as long as their privacy options allow that.

The recipient will receive the message in the main chat:

Block

There are no restrictions when it comes to blocking someone.

When you block someone:
they cannot message you, they cannot add you as a friend, their chat bubbles, normal chat messages and stickers won't be displayed and they will feel like a fool*.

So it was time to work! I started with many ideas, it was hard to decide what I want to go with.
We went from this menu:

From everything I ever made (and that was revealed), it's the most complex feature, but it was worth spending a lot of time on it.

At first when you open the menu, it shows you random packs of effects. So far there are 4 packs with 3 different effects in all of them.

The price increases along with rarity, starting at 750 GOLD, all the way up to 3500 (prices may be different in the final build).

Inventory

A simple to understand menu, with a preview system.
Select and deselect your favourite effects anywhere you want.

And then, enjoy.

That's it?!

Of course not! This is a big feature and I do not want to spoil everything.

As you probably noticed, you can only have one effect at a time. HOWEVER there are special secondary effects, they are of course in the more expensive packs.

What are settings for?

Some effects have special variables! So, you can change (for example) the color, the speed etc.

Can we see the shop?

I'd love to show it to you! But like I said earlier, I don't want to ruin your experience.
Once the game is out, check it out for yourself!


Player vs. Player

The main PvP system had a whole devlog dedicated to it.

Some of you probably like it, some of you don't!
Either way, we need to talk about it.

I'm not the biggest fan of this version of PvP. It's unique! But not completely.
It's basically the normal UNDERTALE fighting system but with a different UI, and I don't like that.

And I'll be honest with you, the code is not the best. We did some testings and fixed (hopefully) most of the bugs - but still, we can do better.

I've said this in the past, but now that's official. The first major update will be a combat update.
This update will include a completely new and original concept of PvP AND the attack creator.

(This is why the attack creator WILL NOT be included in the first release - it's just pointless.)

The alternative

Since not everyone may like the classic PvP, we prepared some simple alternatives...

Sans' Amazing Tic Tac Toe Game

Inspired by an old Undertale MULTIPLAYER event, it's back! But better than ever.
Simply place down circles or crosses until you win. If your enemy makes a stupid move, emote them. Fun!

Rock Paper Scissors

Another simple minigame. Pick either a rock, paper or scissors and pray to RNGesus for a win!

Battleship

This one is my favourite. The design is simple - just like the game. Pick random spots on the map and try to get all your opponent's boats, before they get yours!

Powerups are a feature, to make things a bit more spicy.

Each one is unique - and will help you win a game.
You'll have to wait to play the game to see what they do!

NOTE - All minigames support both mouse and keyboard.


[Interval] - Hat Design Contest

First off, I'd love to thank you all for being a part of this event.
Out of 300+ submissions around 60 hats were accepted! That's more than I expected, but I'm happy about the results.

Hats were never planned to be in the first versions of the game, as making sprites for all of them will take quite some time.
Nonetheless, once the time comes and they're ready, it's going to be an amazing update, thanks to you!


Your own pets

Talk about future updates, huh? Yeah, well..

Take care of your pets and they will follow you everywhere!


Pets differ from simple floating sprites to animated walking creatures (like the Penguin from above, made by @Nikolathecatboi ).

This feature was planned for a looong time. I first came up with this idea back in 2020 - this post for reference, or this.
At first, I wanted pets to be something that would be in the game on launch, but because of some complications, they will be added as a future update.

Skins

We're currently in the process of updating the sprites of our skins!

As you probably noticed on the GIFs above, we have new sprites for (almost) all the skins, made by the amazing @kikioviolet229 . I personally really love all of them!
Obviously there was nothing wrong with the old sprites - they just feel... old, yeah.

This is a huge change, so not all skins are going to be remade in the first versions of the game.

We've been thinking...

We've been thinking about switching to 'human-only' skins. So no Sans, no Temmie, no Asgore, just and only humans. This is something a lot of people are probably not going to like, that's why it's still just a floating idea.

If something like this were to happen, there would be human skins from not only Undertale AUs but from other games as well (like Earthbound or Omori). And most likely, there would be customizable characters as well, just like at the start of Deltarune - but it'd actually matter.

Story and NPCs

TL:DR - All the events are taking place after the pacifist ending, you play as Frisk, trying to solve the mystery of a (possibly) calamitous corruption spreading around.

I'd like to note that the story is optional. As mentioned before, our main focus for this game is the RP, that's why you won't be forced to do anything lore related.

But hey, you're probably wondering..why did that Froggit just shout my name?
Whenever something like that happens - it means that an NPC has a quest for you!


Quests

Quests are a quick 'n easy way to earn some extra GOLD.
Quests are divided into 3 types:


  • NPC Quests

When walking past an NPC, there's a chance that it'll ask you for something. It can be an item, a object or... to beat someone up.
These provide the least amount of gold, but are quick and simple. You can do a max of 6 of them per day.


  • Daily Quests

Daily quests, are random missions that may be easy or hard. GOLD reward depend on the difficulty.

If a quest is grey, it means that it's completed and you should've received your reward. If you complete all 3 daily quests on time, you will receive an additional 15 GOLD! (woohooo)


  • Story Quests

These ones are a jackpot. They are usually hard and long, but worth it - you can get either lots of gold, premium items, or exclusive skins!


NPC Schedules

One crazy idea that I had whilst creating Quests, was to give certain NPCs a schedule.

Long story short, they are alive!! If you want to find (for example) Toriel, she won't be always in the same place. You're gonna have to walk around ruins, and try to find her - ocasionally, she might be at Sans' house.


And for the end, a sneak peek

Do you remember the music box at Grillby's? Well, soon it won't be useless anymore.

This is still a work in progress, and it might be a feature in the first release of the game.
You'll be able to add any youtube song to the queue, and everyone that's with you in Grillby's will hear it too!

I'm of course planning to add a 'skip' system, so that any malicious songs can be removed.
