How Vincent grew:

For me, (or I like to think that), he grew with his parents in the countryside, he went to school and eventually to a camp - where he met (declared his love?) to Sylvia.

Focusing more on his childhood, his parents were never proud of him. Like ... For his parents he was just someone who would have to take the farm eventually, like some sort of stranger.

They weren't kind nor sweet, they were rough with him, making him wake up at 5 am for training(he used to be "weak") + farm chores. His mother cooked the breakfast while he would go out with his father to start the chores.

He has some scars - from the rough treatment of his parents - but those had been fading through the time that has passed, but they are still there, after all the scars in the memories can't be forgotten easily.

Repeated compartment:

Taking in count this, Vincent did the same (EXCEPT FROM THE PART OF THE FARM), he never said good things to Steve and he was cold to him. With Sylvia we could say it wasn't that much but Sylvia endured the abuse that could have been to Steve.

"Love"?

Vincent loved Sylvia at some point and he still, but the old memories of his parents + alcohol and some drugs (MAYBE) messed up everything, making him the "monster" we could say he is currently.
