So the battle system is close to functional! We still have no inventory (not looking forward to programming that haha) but it's looking good!
As for the gameplay hook I mentioned...
So you play as SANS for the majority of the game. In UNDERTALE/DELTARUNE, you're fighting with most monsters, but in UNRELATED, there's not a lot of call for actual, try-to-hurt-each-other fighting. After all, no monster wants to beat up a teenager without a good reason.
And I was thinking about UNDERTALE, and I don't think a lot of those monsters were trying to hurt you. I mean, picture the pacifist route. What's Froggit's problem? It's clearly not that set on taking your soul or whatever, considering a compliment from you or a harsh glare from Toriel sends it on it's way.
Books in the Librarby describe humans as 'never getting to know the joys of magic'. Think of Papyrus and his bones that he would stockpile/give to Undyne as a gift/lose to the dog/etc. Magic and what we see as 'attacks' are clearly more than just bullets.
Point being, the battle system in this game is thematically more centered on monsters using their magic to do daily tasks. As of current (subject to change) the tutorial has SANS making breakfast for his family, for example.
That's all I have to say on that. Thanks for listening! Stay Determined!
