We celebrated the 5th anniversary of POPGOES just over two months ago, and in my devlog about this, I reminded you all of my amazing cat, Baby.
This is the same cat that appears in the special "Cat Thanks" section of the original POPGOES.
Not long after that, on the 8th of August, I started a Twitter account dedicated to Baby called Baby at the Table.
Little did I know that I was sharing with you Baby's final moments with us.
Baby died today.
He was acting completely fine, up until yesterday afternoon. Then he suddenly became very slow and unresponsive. We held out hope that this was a temporary thing, possibly something bad he had eaten, but it soon became obvious that it was more serious.
We took him to the vet today, but nobody could figure out what could have caused this sudden reaction from him. To give him (potentially) effective treatment, he would have needed to undergo many intrusive, expensive, and potentially useless tests. Our other options were to take him back home and wait for nature to take its course (one way or the other), or to have him comfortably put down at the vet. We chose the latter.
It's hard to put across how important Baby was to all of us. I literally have unlisted YouTube videos of me with him from 2009. He was the perfect company for Sian when she moved in with us all the way from Australia. And I'm pretty sure he was my sister's best friend too.
It's going to be very hard not having him annoy us in the kitchen, not join us at the dinner table, not have him say goodbye to us when we go for a drive. We can get another cat, but we'll never have another Baby. What a funny, stupid, perfect cat.

Rest in peace Baby
