Hanahaki disease is a fictional trope in which, when one feels unrequited love, their anguish of this unfulfilled relationship cause them to grow flowers in their lungs.. with flowers growing in their lungs, they cough up the flowers.


Thorns may prick, ending your life slowly. The flowers in your airway may obstruct your breathing, leaving you a lifeless corpse on the floor covered in petals.. If the one who has hanahaki disease comes to learn that their love is returned, unfortunately they will still die, but with this information that their love is returned, they die happily, fulfilled.

Granted, seeing as this is a trope in fiction, there are variants to it. If you want to learn the variants, do your own research, i'm not doing that!
