Oc lore: so, kawa and umi are members of the mizuians (get the pun??) and they have a prophacy that one day the water spirit (the dragon, lady miza as she is called) will fade and give their power to a mortal.

Umi and kawa encounter the spirit, in which umi attempts to leave with his sister. The water spirit prevents that, and freezes umi in ice temporarily, saying he is “rash and unwilling to see the truth.” Kawa, on the other hand, is fascinated by the spirit. So she runs up to miza. The dragon, Deeming her as one with no ill intentions, says they shall pass her power onto her due to the dragon slowly fading.

Kawa, accepted due to her desire to be known as the one who got the cool water powers (which she acts kinda dumb, stay with me), and gains the powers. Although she has zero clue on how to use them, so she never really does. She slowly learns to get used to the new abilities, but umi and her decided to not reveal her powers, to kawas sadness, due to the ongoing chaos on their planet.
