Here's a reason Kirby's design is simple. Sakurai himself (the creator of Kirby and Smash Bros.) made him like this in case people love his character and would like to draw him from time to time.
This is why my Sora OC is simple like Kirby.

Artoon seems like it was very underrated game development company even when very key people worked there.
Naoto Ohshima, the one who originally designed Sonic the Hedgehog and Dr. Eggman, founded (or at least co-founded) this company.
