because Mastodon is very similar to Bluesky in that it's an open source Twitter-like platform, but it's ultra-customizable and you can add your own theme, create your own rules, add emojis, etc. However, unlike Discord, with Mastodon you have to pay for or host your server locally, which is more technical.

However, you can communicate with users from other platforms, such as following users on a service that has nothing to do with Twitter, like Peertube, a non-profit open source alternative to YouTube.
