Over the course of the past few months, I have been at a loss for words. I can't form a proper devlog in my brain, so instead I chose to post in-dev screenshots to show the progress of how things are coming along. If I wanted to address this topic properly, however, it's necessary for me to do it the old way.
Oblitus Casa 1.0, in my eyes, is a failure. Many of you might agree with me on that, which is perfectly fine. In a way, you would be justified in thinking that. Some of you may ask, what went wrong within those two years of development? I'm here to answer you and remind you all of the upcoming 2.0 version while I am at it.
A few days ago, in the Radiance Fanclub, I let all my fans know in a joking offhand comment: "It's not an official FNaTI game without a shitty development cycle."
However, we were never ever prepared for what 1.0 ended up becoming.
The game had several coders. In hindsight, this was a terrible move on my part. After my former longtime friends had left the team we were left in a rut. How do we move on from there? When I look back on this now I know 1.0 was doomed right there. I don't blame myself for trying to salvage the game as best as I could, I think regardless of what I did or tried to do to finish the game in that state would've resulted in the same product or worse. I don't normally say this, but I'm sorry for it. I know we could've done better, as we are doing exactly that as we speak.
A few people made up rumors that the game wasn't tested at all. This is a total lie. We tested the game for the entirety of those two years. There was a problem that sat in there though. The game's horrible programming would literally break the more we tried to fix it. By the time we released the game, we all knew that it would not be able to end up in a stable state. We have given up on 1.0, and you all can criticize us for that, but it was the right choice regardless of what you might say.
Beyond the bugs, people have stated their issues with this game that many of us agree on. The old project file limited us on what we could do for cutscenes, gameplay, and more. Now that we have restarted, we are able to give you all what you want. We are doing this not only for us but for our fans.
The tunnels? Improved and innovative. Henry's cutscene? Animated. Gameplay issues, RNG (most of which was completely caused by bugs in 1.0), and bugs? Fixed. I could list off more, but I want you all to play it when it's ready to believe it. I would've removed 1.0 off the page, but at this point, it's far too late. People would nag us about it. I don't recommend any of you play it, but it's there so people don't annoy us. Does that make sense?
I kindly ask you all to wait just a little more. Please let us give you all the proper game. Please stop hassling us over it. There is no need to write a 1-star "review" on the game in its current state when you know full well it's not even in the state to be reviewed (The download literally tells you to wait for the new version). It's come to the point where I just start deleting comments and blocking people that do this, because you should know better. It's obnoxious. Call it unprofessional, but I'd rather not hear it, because we never claimed to be professional in the first place.
Radiance is indie. We are people with jobs, schools, families, and more. We do this for fun. Most of the time we make these games for ourselves, not you. We are not here to live up to your unrealistic ridiculous standards. The community has been plagued with so many of you who don't know what an Indie game is, especially one that is free. It's your own fault for filling your head with those thoughts. At least be appreciative that we are trying to mend that when we don't have to.
Wait for 2.0. See you all later.
