Now, I just wanted to say that I'm very much hyped for the next entry of 3D Mario, I absolutely am!
But, I have to be honest, I'm massively and I do me MASSIVELY mixed on the idea of a fully opened world Mario game.
On the first-hand, I like the idea of you being able to explore a big world and going anywhere you want and going on your own pace!
But on the other-hand, making a game fully open world sacrifices the tighter level design on how creative and fun it can be, and generally, it just sounds and looks so incredibly boring to run through a massive world in one direction for long periods of time after a little while.
And generally, I'm also not a fan of games that take so long to finish.
Like I can manage to do up to forty hours, but anymore than that does start to push my patience.
Stuff like this is the reason I'm very pushed away from playing games like Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom because I know those games takes a really long time to finish and I've seen many clips of gameplay and it just looks so boring on just running, climbing, or using the paraglider.
Not saying that they're bad games, they just do not look like they're games for me, personally.
Doesn't help that I'm mainly a platformer and if I'm not doing a ton of platforming and much more running in it, that just doesn't sound fun at all and I feel like Mario just isn't designed for something like that, or at least, just not on Breath of the Wild levels of open world.
And what I find interesting is that I think Odyssey already suffers from this a little itself and it's not even completely open world!
Like, Odyssey just has way too many moons to it, making the game unnecessary longer, and the hours of coin grinding hurts my soul so much.
And if I'm being super honest, if this game didn't have those secret rooms placed around the maps, I'd say that the game would go from decently fun and good for a decent amount, to outright boring for the main story because of the somewhat decent lack of platforming for it.
But I will say, the game is overall pretty fun until after five hundred moons and Darker Side, but after that, it just overstays its welcome.
But, I will say that Bowser's Fury is actually extremely fun because it doesn't overstay its welcome, Fury Bowser can keep you on your toes from time to time, there's quite a lot of platforming to do in it, and traveling to different locations is pretty fast with Plessie or with the quick travel system after fully being Bowser after reaching fifty Cat Shines!
And despite my feelings on the idea, I actually do think proper splitscreen two player multiplayer, local two player multiplayer, or online two player multiplayer would work extremely well for open world and make the idea seem really fun!
And look, I'm not trying to say that open world for Mario can't work, I just think it needs to be balanced out extremely well.
And I do think Nintendo can absolutely making it work without a doubt!
But hey, I guess we'll see what they do when they'll most likely show it off on the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct!
Okay peeps, I'm out now, and thanks to anyone who reads this very long opinion piece completely through, and let me know if you agree or respectfully disagree!
