Welcome to the Highschool Heroes DevLog - Version 0.4.1

Another update is available, this time fixing some of the main issues from the last major update and applying some specific improvements.

Speaking of the latest update, we had a very positive reception to the new mechanics, especially with the bike race. Soon we will have news to add to the races and make them more dynamic.

And speaking of the future of the game: I'm making good progress on the new features for the next major update. The idea is to try to maintain the pace of releases at the end of each month: one month for fixes and one for new features. The main thing is that the main roadmap is ready, which helps a lot in focusing on the development of the most important items.

Another point: I am preparing an HTML version to be played in a browser. It will have some limitations compared to the executable version and will be used as the basis for the future demo.

Highschool Heroes is my first game project and has been through many changes since the day I started developing it. The initial idea was that it would just be for learning purposes for a course I was taking, but it ended up evolving into a product that I really want to finish, despite the hard work involved. I still want to go into more detail about the development, but that's a story for another day.

IMPROVEMENTS:

  • The game engine has been updated to Godot 4.6.0.

  • The Construction Site map has received a minor visual overhaul to avoid confined combat spaces.

  • Static objects that interact with thrown enemies, such as parked cars, now deal damage to enemies they hit.

  • Some scenarios have had visual adjustments and fixes:

    • Emerith High School - A1

    • Comercial St. - A1

    • Comercial St. - A2

  • The base chance for heroes to stun enemies has been increased:

    • Mike: 13% -> 20%

    • Kyle: 22% -> 30%

    • Littleboss: 15% -> 25%

    • Serena: 8% -> 15%

BUG FIXES:

  • Fixed a bug where heroes would lose their movement when hit in midair while performing an attack.

  • Heroes' aerial combos now reset correctly upon touching the ground.

  • Fixed an issue where defeated enemies would drop double coins in certain circumstances.

  • Boss Josh Harold no longer stops movement on heroes who have fallen to the ground.

  • Fixed an issue where the Air Stomp and Quick Strike attacks, both used by the boss Josh Harold, had visual glitches if he was hit by a hero while preparing the attack.

  • The background of special moves is now correctly aligned with the game screen if the move is performed during a required battle.

  • The double focus of the Exit button in the quick travel menu has been fixed.

  • Fixed an issue where heroes summoned into combat could use aerial attacks before touching the ground to initiate character control.

  • Fixed an issue where the hero Littleboss would cancel area damage upon landing in Boss mode if he used an attack just before touching the ground.

  • Fixed a bug where the hero Littleboss would not release grabbed enemies if hit by another enemy, causing a game crash.

  • The hero Mike now cannot take hits while performing his special attack Super Hook.

  • The enemy Little Fat is now knocked back correctly when hit by the special attack Bat Throw from the hero Kyle.

  • The enemy Bomber is no longer knocked to the ground while attacking.

  • The enemy Bomber now drops its bomb correctly when hit by an attack that knocks it out of the air.

  • The enemy Bomber is now correctly defeated if its health is reduced to zero by a normal attack from any hero.

  • The attack and defense points of equipped items are now correctly added to the total.

  • Fixed a bug where heroes would not drop items they were holding if they were hit by a projectile.

  • The hero Littleboss in Boss mode now correctly takes damage from projectiles if the height conditions are met at the time of the attack.
