Welcome to the Highschool Heroes DevLog - Version 0.5.0

We've reached another update. In addition to the development of the new chapter in the story, we've made some changes and improvements to the item system and the store's appearance.

Looking ahead, our goal is to complete the new boss battle and introduce new enemies to the city of Emerith. We’re also developing side stories that put our heroes in ridiculous situations.

Let's get to the updates! And thank you for playing Highschool Heroes!

News:

  • The start of Mission 4 is now available in the game! Along with it, new school environment scenarios have been added.

  • The hero “Serena” is available in the game! She can be selected at a certain point in Mission 4:

    • The most agile of the heroes, she can easily escape from a large group of enemies.

    • She has fast attacks with a longer range.

  • The shopping menu has been visually updated, featuring a more elaborate color scheme and better highlighting the information for each item.

  • Some items now require certain components as prerequisites for purchase. This feature becomes officially available in Eloy’s shop starting with Mission 5, but you can access it after completing the current chapters.

  • Most equipment now has functional effects. Some of these items are already available in the game at Eloy’s shop. The remaining items can be obtained through missions or secret tasks.

  • The negative status “Frozen” has been added to the game:

    • A hero affected by this condition takes increased damage from enemies and has their movement speed reduced for 30 seconds.

    • The “Bomber” enemy now has a variant that drops bombs that cause freezing.

Improvements:

  • Item backpacks can now contain money.

  • The in-game currency is now unified, the separate currency for each hero has been removed, making it easier to purchase items in shops and manage finances.

  • An adjustment was made to the enemy navigation agent on the map to prevent them from getting stuck in certain corners of the scenario.

  • Some adjustments have been made to the special move system and the evasion system to prevent hit enemies from continuing to perform an attack animation while in mid-air.

  • A visual effect has been added when you reach the 5 special points limit.

  • Enemies can no longer be hit while the knock-out animation is playing.

  • Heroes no longer take damage if they are hit while throwing an object.

  • The “Ninja” enemy now has a chance to drop the “Broom Handle” item instead of the “Grandma's Broom” item.

  • Some restrictions have been implemented on equipping items to heroes. You will not be able to change equipped items in the following cases:

    • In required battles or boss battles.

    • Unconscious heroes also cannot have items added or removed.

  • The strong attack button can now also be used to trigger a scene transition or to initiate dialogues.

  • The following scenes have been visually updated:

    • Mike's House - Downstairs

    • Lost Travelers Trailer Park

    • Stores Alley - A2

Bug fixes:

  • Fixed an issue where the process responsible for summoning enemies could cause the game to crash when attempting to summon the “Bomber” enemy in a specific situation while randomly selecting from the list of available enemies for the level.

  • Fixed an issue where the joystick skip button was disabled in scene transition areas.

  • The transition from the “Comercial St. - A2” scene to the “Central Park - Godness's Path” scene is now working properly.

  • Standard dialogues with NPCs now play correctly.

  • Fixed an issue where the game would crash if the player exited a NPC dialogue while standing near an enemy.

  • Key mission items are now properly removed when used.

  • Backpacks that have already been opened and were saved at some point will now be properly removed from the map when you load the saved game.

  • Fixed an issue where the game would crash when throwing an object at an enemy ready to attack that was very close to the player.

  • Enemies knocked back by an attack will no longer cancel their knockdown animation if they are ready to attack the player.

  • Removed the “Slingshot” item from the inventory in the cutscene during the second encounter with Josh Harold.

Know issues:

  • The scenarios are not resetting to the default enemy group when revisiting them in the same mission.

  • Moving the heroes with a joystick feels more clunky compared to moving them with a keyboard.

  • The descriptions of item effects are not displaying correctly in the inventory, on the equip screen, and on the hero's summary card.
