What We Did in 2025
All year long, we worked on a complete reimagining of the game. We decided to switch from Unreal Engine 5 to Unreal Engine 4 to fix a number of graphical issues and problems that players were facing.
Technical Changes
The project is now primarily written in C++, with partial use of Blueprints.
The structure and classes mirror the original Hello Neighbor, but with our improvements and modifications.
A New Stage - Hello Neighbor Kit
So what will this marvel be called now? Our answer: Hello Neighbor Kit!
It’s a full toolkit that includes:
multiplayer via Epic Online Services (cross-platform)
mobile support
modding
and much more
The Hello Neighbor Games Remake itself will transition into a mod, which can be downloaded separately from the Kit.
Project Openness
The project remains fully open. You will be able to:
create your own fan games
build your own games on its foundation
or simply have fun with modding, just like in the original Hello Neighbor - simple and hassle-free
Release Date?
No exact dates yet. We plan to release early versions in 2026. The project is still in a rough state and needs refinement, but we’re moving forward.
AI Updates
We’re completely redesigning the Neighbor and basing it on a custom Behavior system by xenffly - creator of HNCode.
We’re using his work in the form of IgorSaves and ShatalovBehavior.
The current Neighbor in Hello Neighbor Games Remake doesn’t satisfy us - and probably not just us.
The new Neighbor will be smarter, more flexible, and more dangerous, capable of things the old version couldn’t do.
And yes - in multiplayer, you’ll be able to play as the Neighbor 👀
This opens up completely new gameplay possibilities.
VR Support - Will It Return?
It’s too early to give a definite answer. VR is planned, and moreover, we’re considering simultaneous multiplayer support for PC and VR.
This means VR players will be able to play together with regular players.
Mobile Devices
Mobile devices… are complicated.
There are many issues, and those are exactly what we aim to fix.
The previous version seemed designed by someone very cruel, who wanted mobile players to suffer.
We’re taking a different approach - no pain, just a smooth gaming experience.
Optimization and Collisions
Collision is now taken directly from the original game.
We had to dump it from the files, but the result was worth it - object behavior feels as authentic as possible.
Optimization has improved too.
All models with excessive polygon counts (yes, hello to the 15,000-poly beds) now have LODs.
Some LODs were generated with the engine’s built-in tools, while others were taken directly from the original to preserve visual style and performance.
Multiplayer and Online
Why Epic Online Services?
We chose Epic Online Services as the multiplayer foundation because it’s one of the best solutions for cross-platform play.
Play with friends anywhere, anytime, regardless of platform.
Will there be anti-cheat?
We haven’t focused on a full anti-cheat system yet.
But everything has its time - this is definitely not being ignored.
How stable is synchronization?
We’re working to make synchronization as stable as possible and are already seeing noticeable progress.
It remains a priority.
Community Custom Modes
Yes, this is important.
You’ll be able to create your own game modes using GameState and GameMode.
Complete freedom for experimentation and community ideas.
Changes to Maps in Hello Neighbor Games Remake
Will the maps change? Hmm… yes.
We’re gradually introducing new mechanics and gameplay elements that are carefully woven into familiar locations.
So formally, the maps remain recognizable, but feel different and reveal themselves in new ways.
