How can I start making music?

I decided start making some music, more specific: Chiptune, but the problem is i don't know what program or programs to use, I tried with FL Studio but I couldn't save my files until I purchase the program.

Any suggestions?

In the quest for accessibility, I'm adding Resurrection Shrines for players on the 'novice' end of the platforming spectrum.

In order to unlock the power of a Shrine, you must collect 3 'Souls' from your dead corpses! (the floating blue orbs)
