Hope you’re all doing well.
I wanted to give a quick update on where things are headed.
I’ve completely lost interest in making Five Nights at Freddy’s-style games, at least the more recycled “sit and survive” type. That formula just does not excite me anymore, and I’ve stopped enjoying the process of making those kinds of games. Because of that, I’ve decided to move on and focus on projects that feel more interesting and creatively fulfilling.
I’ve also moved over to itch.io, where I’ll be posting all of my new projects going forward.
With that said, The Rat Cave: Reimagined is officially cancelled.
The project went through a lot of development hell. I rewrote the game from the ground up three separate times, and at this point, I do not want to force myself to finish something I no longer enjoy making.
So, what am I working on now?
Princess Quest Plus is a faithful recreation of the original Princess Quest games, with improvements, new features, and expanded gameplay. Games like Hades and Vampire Survivors have been major inspirations for the direction I want to take it.
Planned features include:
All games merged into four levels
Improved gameplay mechanics
Roguelike elements
Multiple endings
Improved musical context and atmosphere
This is the next major project I want to pursue, and I’m genuinely excited about it because I enjoy both making and playing games like this.
I also want to say something to other solo developers who want to pursue game development: pursue your ideas, but do not let them grow beyond what you can realistically handle.
Ambition is important, but it can become a problem when you make a project too large with the expectation that you’ll somehow be able to finish it, only to end up losing motivation and interest. That was the problem I ran into. I tried to do too much, and it blew up in my face.
Both of my FNaF games have now been cancelled, with only one of them ever receiving a released demo. That is not exactly a great track record, but I have learned from those failures. With the skills and experience I have now, I have a much better understanding of what I can and cannot realistically do.
That’s all for now. Thanks for sticking around, and I’ll see you all down the road.
