While I'm not a big fan of first-person puzzle games, Hourglass might make me one.
For a demo, this is highly fleshed out. It's no surprise to see why it met its Kickstarter goal. And this is coming from someone who isn't real big into first-person puzzle games.
Gameplay-wise, it works. While using a temporal copy of yourself to help solve puzzles isn't groundbreaking by any stretch (at least, to my knowledge), it's still a concept that is fun to play with when pulled off.
Graphically, I dig the aesthetic. I wouldn't consider it low-poly, but it's just enough to hit the sweet spot between stylistic and too low-quality. UE4 is a great choice, as the lighting effects are supurb.
The audio ranks just as high as well. Great soundtrack, nothing jarring that I can remember.
The controls are alright. Again, nothing groundbreaking, but nothing to complain about.
The only thing I can complain about is the movement of the character. It feels sluggish and laggy to me on KB/M. It doesn't deter from completing the puzzles in this game by any means, but I do think the character physics and be tightened down a couple notches.
Overall, I can't recommend this demo highly enough. While I'm not a big fan of first-person puzzle games, Hourglass might make me one.
