Map Editor

Hello, again guys and gals! I promised to talk more about map editor and maps themselves, so let’s go!

If you played our very first public demo, you probably noticed that every map was some sort of rectangle. Those times are over, Kamil Drzas and Yana Yarmolich worked hard to make the maps more interesting and fun to play! Now we can “draw” any shape we want and add, or erase new hexes wherever we like!

That’s not the only cool thing about this editor though. Instead of a text list of assets, we can actually see what terrain elements we have to work with. There is a small search box, that allows me us to filter the list. Possibly the biggest thing about this editor is the terrain element subeditor.

In early game builds we had difficulty trying to include multi-hex terrain features. Most of the stuff on the map took up only one hex, and it wasn’t what we originally imagined. With the new editor, we can add big whole buildings, huge trees, and more while being able to exclusively edit these elements to define what hexes they claim. What this adds to the game is the ability to walk behind the buildings, or with the right asset preparations even walk into the buildings.

For us, this is huge, as the maps are starting to come alive making them much more interesting.

That’s all for today’s update folks, take care and see you in the next one!

Some time ago, we posted a screenshot of the Mexico level. A curiosity about it is that, like some other scenarios of the game, it was inspired by a real landscape, The Basaltic Prisms of Santa María Regla. It is one of the natural wonders of the country!
