Alright that’s it, I’m tired of not being able to make more music for you all. Because I’ve been inactive for so long, I’ve decided to make another style canon (other than Modern, which is still being considered): Pseudo-Bit.
What is Pseudo-Bit and what will it sound like?
Pseudo-Bit is something that sounds chiptuney but isn’t actually 8-bit (you didn’t make it under the limitations of the NES or you didn’t use FamiTracker or something). What does it sound like? Take the soundtracks of Escaped Chasm and Dweller’s Empty Path for an example. They sound chiptuney and stuff, but they’re literally impossible to recreate in FamiTracker without there being differences. Sure, House (EC) was successfully recreated in FamiTracker, but it might just be likely that song was originally composed there anyway. Dweller’s Empty Path, no chance. It even has reverb for god’s sake! No NES music has reverb in it. It also has waves that the NES probably can’t even make, but that’s beside the point.
So yeah, Pseudo-Bit is basically chiptune-sounding music that can’t run on the NES because it wasn’t made for it. So, it’s fake chiptuning. It can still sound like a banger if you beep and boop it in the right ways, but you can’t run it on a NES.
Last but not least, how the hell will I make this “Pseudo-Bit” OST style? Surely I don’t have any tools on my phone that’ll allow me to make music. Right?
Wrong. Double wrong.
So you see, if you’re familiar with iPhones, you’re probably aware GarageBand is pre-installed on them.
“Wait. Please don’t tell me you’re going to use GARAGEBAND to make this Pseudo-Bit thing.”
Uh… well yeah. You see, I actually will be using GarageBand, but there’s a twist.
I won’t be using any of the instruments Apple provides.
“So how are you going to make the music?”
Turns out there’s a sampler in GB that allows me to import any instrument I want as long as it’s in a format it recognizes. So, I’m going to take a bunch of random waves and some retro-sounding drums and get to work.
See? No garbage default instruments to worry about. This Pseudo-Bit style is gonna rock.
But wait! There’s more!
If you remember BeepBox, and you’re familiar with a modified version of it called JummBox… that’s also really good for making chiptune music! Although I normally use it for drafts instead of actual tracks. Maybe if I ever make Pinori 2, JummBox could be an option! In itself, I mean.
But yeah, JummBox is REALLY freakin cool, and I can access it on my school computer since it’s a website. Neat, right? That means I can literally make this Pseudo-Bit style whether I have my phone or my laptops!
So there it is! Pseudo-Bit is now canon because I feel bad I can’t do the others like ORG, NES, SNES, and GXSCC. I will when I get one of my Windows laptops back, or better yet my gaming PC, but until then Pseudo-Bit is the priority. I could theoretically install Windows on the Chromebook but I could get in major trouble because crazy Google put some write protect switch in the laptop so it can’t install any custom BIOSes or operating systems, so I would have to take the write protect switch OUT, big no-no, and even if I didn’t get in trouble for taking the switch out, I would get in trouble for replacing the operating system. So, no-go Google Chrome (OS)!
But yeah. TL;DR can’t make NES/SNES/ORG/GXSCC stuff rn so I’m inventing a new style that way I *can* make music.
