Greetings!
As some of you may have noticed, there have been some upgrades on Erah: The Guardians, and on the franchise in general. While the good news is that we’re going to constantly update and inform you about the current state of the project from now on, let’s see some changes that happened and will happen in the not too distant future. Most of these changes aren’t anything radical, more of a clarification on what we’re dealing with here than anything else. Also, we’re trying to keep this post as short as possible. No sugar-coating, no bullshit, no needless details. Just. Pure. Facts. So let’s get started!
WHAT ERAH (STILL) IS?
Erah: The Guardians is still the game you’re so excitedly waiting to play. A game where choices will matter. There can be entirely different endings, all dependent on, in the largest part, how you interact with characters throughout the game.
The game isn’t your everyday, run-of-the-mill role-playing game, either. We’re doing our best to refine the same old tropes we all know, and inject something unique to make it a memorable experience.
We haven’t abandoned artistic aspirations. In writing, in music, and also in visual elements, our goal is to bring you something original.
Erah: The Guardians is still free, but not as a free-to-play tag would indicate. No DLC, no procedurally generated randomness, no loot boxes, and no micro-transactions. The game will have everything you need to fully immerse yourself in the experience, from beginning to end. All without you having to spend a single cent.
WHAT HAS CHANGED?
Blue Flame Candle, as the developer team of the game was known formerly, is now disbanded. There are many reasons behind this, some you may already be familiar with from my posts in the news section. Since we re-organized our ranks, we decided it best to start everything with a clean slate, and give the new formation a new name. From now on, the developer team will be known as Soulfire Entertainment. Our current setup includes faces both old and new.
As development picked back up again, when we were writing the detailed synopses, we had to realize the story is simply too large to cram into one game, like we originally intended. So we decided to adopt a trilogy format and produce three games altogether. This allows the inclusion of all the details, characters, features and story arcs we would like to see in our games, without losing any of the content. As such, we switched the game engine to a much better engine, which also provides more and better options than its predecessor. Cross-elements that go from one separate game to another, are also easier to implement this way. We included some graphs to show you what AND how changed since then.
BEFORE
AFTER
The only possible downside, if you can call it that, is that we can’t promise you the entire trilogy will be free. Erah: The Guardians definitely will be, since that’s what we promised. And it will be a standalone game that finishes the first story arc. You won’t feel like you’re playing an unfinished game.
THE FUTURE
We’ll be posting “sneak peek” previews once each week that will give away some small goodies, like character artwork, a tiny part of the script, screenshots, or some other resource you will be able to find in the game. We don’t want to make the same mistake twice, we will try to be as active in the sites as possible.
We’re also entertaining the idea of introducing Q&A sessions where you can ask us whatever intrigues you about the game, and we’ll do our best to answer without revealing too much.
For the overall presentation: we’re working on many things that we will share with you sooner or later.
We hope we could answer whatever questions have been running back and forth in your mind about the state of the project. If you still have questions, feel free to post them.
Until then, stay tuned! And remember: Erah is alive!
