It's amazing how making games with passion and for fun isn't top priority anymore. It's about getting a dinner ticket to clout by making the most generic fnaf fan games with absolutely god awful gameplay and over the top, fancy, triple a wannabe graphics.
It's just so fucking exhausting seeing the same sludge get pumped out in this community 24/7 with little to no originality. It's always the fucking graphics, and I'm at a point where anytime I see a new fnaf fan game with that, I go.
"Cool, I just hope the gameplay is good". Hence why events such as the Fangame Direct don't interest me. I always wanna give these games a chance because you can't just assume a game will be bad when it's not out yet, but.
When you keep getting burned by projects you think will be good, only for them to either be mid or bad, it gets harder to do that.
I will reserve my thoughts for those kind of games because the people making them are doing this for fun and not as a job. But overtime, it gets exhausting when originality in fnaf fan games is so scarce.
With that said, I can't just say everything is bad yet, because it really really isn't.
Ignoring all the good games like CF 2 The End and TAF Nevermore in the fnaw community, there are other fucking bangers like A Bite At Freddy's or Playtime With Percy. There will be more to come too, I know it, passion in this community is not dead, and while it's certainly not thriving, it's there, you just gotta look for it is all.
It'd be nice if that passion was the norm and not whatever the hell is going on now, but yeah. I'd also like to add that some developers who invest all their time into graphics aren't doing it for clout.
Sometimes, the only way to get your game recognized in this damn community is if you put in good looking graphics. Good graphics are not an issue here, they are important when making a game, the issue is that it's usually the graphics over the gameplay.
Your game can have amazing gameplay, but if the graphics aren't there, forget it. And that's what's really sad, because gameplay is what makes up the actual game, it's what you should put your time into, it's what should be good. But when you put so much time into the gameplay so you can have a chance of getting recognized, you can't balance working on the gameplay aswell.
There is of course a way to balance having both good gameplay and graphics, but some developers can't do it. The point at the end of the day is, I wish this community could normalize praising good gameplay in fnaf fan games instead of just good graphics, ya know?
And as for NLP's post, it's really exciting to see more people in this community move onto better, original things instead of staying around this clownshow forever. We all eventually grow up and move onto greener pasters, I know I will in due time.
Can't wait to see what he, and others who have started doing their own original stuff have to show off.
Sorry for the long rant, I needed to get this off your chest. If you're making a fnaf fan game, hey, godspeed. Just, try to put in some good gameplay if you can, lol.
Anyways, that's all, cya
