Now, the last actual major update on the game was on June 2023, and now, it's been about a year and a half since then. I only recently turned 13 when I released the demo (https://turbowarp.org/858459379) and now I'm 14 and a few months old. I have made a few posts hinting at it's return, but the last post was half a year ago, so I have a feeling most of you guys presumed the game was cancelled. That's not what happened.
First of all, if I cancelled the game, I would tell you guys! Actually, considering my other games, I don't blame you if you don't believe me. But regardless, Scratch School is definitely not been cancelled. It's just been on a really...really...really long hiatus.
I'm not entirely sure why the hiatus began. I simply just took a break from the game in summer of 2023 to focus on TNAK and KBTH. Focused more on school and other miscellaneous stuff during fall and winter. Then during early 2024, I...well, I don't recall what exactly I did. I just kinda existed. My mental health was really struggling at the time, as I went through a burnout, my friendships were becoming complicated, and school was so overwhelming. Thankfully, I survived through spring of 2024, and then it was summer. Thought about actually returning to the game, but I wanted to enjoy more of the summer and make another animation. Oh yeah, I also broke my wrist. That's a whole other story for another day. High school has started for me, and now, November is approaching. And still, no major update on Scratch School.
I actually think I thought of "Scratch School is just in a hiatus" a few months ago, but forgot to announce it you guys cuz....cuz...I'm not actually sure. I simply added an update on the description. I still got loves and faves on the demo, so I wasn't really thinking too much about it. Then today, a fan of the game asked about it's release date, and I realized that I still hadn't actually told anyone about it. So now...I have the guts to do so.
So, lemme just say immediately: Scratch School may not have been in production in a long while, but I was still thinking about it. I was working on other things in the game, such as the special features, a walkthrough of puzzles, and sketches of what might happen. That was only a small amount though. Scratch School has officially been on hiatus for- as I said, about a year and a half. So the obvious question is...when am I returning to it?
To be honest guys, I'm not entirely sure. My best estimate would be early 2025, but I don't want to promise that because things happen. In fact, that's one of the whole reasons this hiatus started- things happen. I don't have a plan for releasing stuff because I'm my own boss, and I don't do well with due dates. Of course, that's why I've now left it ambiguous to when the game's going to release- to prevent anticipation. It's something I've learned about. For all I know, it might release in 2028 at this point.
I know it might seem strange that I'm being so clingy to an idea I've had as an 11 year old, and to be fair, I have cancelled things that have been dragging on me for too long. I consider ZE2 (at the moment) cancelled because I don't have much reason to return to the series, and I have no real ideas for the game itself. I (might?) consider SSE cancelled because me and Treewater have moved on to bigger and better things. I cancelled "97Scratch the Movie", some weird animation I was planning since 9 and finally stopped thinking about when I was 12. TNAK? Uh...let's talk about that another day.
The point is, I delay things a lot, I cancel things a lot, and I put things on hold a lot, because I consider myself very busy. But in the end, I don't want to cancel something if I still think it can work. And Scratch School can still work. It's not negatively impacting my mental health unlike 2022; I still have a plethora of ideas for the game I would like to share to the public.
I would consider Scratch School at the moment to- not be in development hell, or cancelled. As I said earlier, it's just been on a really...really...really long hiatus.
I hope and promise to resume progress of it one day.
I hope you guys understand, and I thank you all for the support of the game. Especially thanks to BrilliantGamer123, the one who got it featured. Cya.
