What if not Kris, but YOU are the knight. What if the soul is Kris and the character is supposed to be a representation of you. That's why you choose traits at the beginning of chapter 1. You make the choices and then the character is created as a representation of you. During the scenes where the soul is ripped out. What if that's you trying to take total control by getting rid of Kris. When the person at the beginning of the game says "you can't choose who you are" They could easily be lying and trying to deceive you. This is all my thoughts so far. I might make a follow-up post in a few days.
