A parallel universe
This was pointed at back in 2018 when this game wasn't a thing, but here are some things that even further support this.
Asriel is alive
The monsters are on the surface
Undyne doesn't know who the fuck Alphys is
Sans and Papyrus are new
Kris is the only human
And there's a locked door south in town that most likely leads underground.
Kris's connection to Chara
Yes, this is obvious, Kris has a connection to Chara. Same striped shirt, same hair colour, same... chocolate addiction. Kris also has an indirect connection to Frisk, as Kris is a partial anagram of Frisk.
The "Bad Memory" Theory
In one Deltarune player's gameplay video, they received an egg from someone behind a tree (IT'S FUCKING GASTER). It can be carried to Asgore's shop in the Light World and put it in the fridge (you can't drop it apparently). When they checked the fridge again, instead of an egg and a pickle jar, there's 2 eggs.
There's also an Undertale enemy, Memoryhead, who is found with the Amalgamates, but isn't made of recognizable enemies. Its bullets are Gaster faces. Memoryhead also says "lorem ipsum docet" (something related to teaching through pain). But what's more important is that it can put a piece of itself in your inventory, named a "bad memory". If it's used with less than 3HP, it completely heals you; otherwise, the healing is slight.
Also, all 3 Gaster followers recall a bad memory related to Gaster. One is even holding a round object with a face on it. This is what happens when things are in contact with the "egg" too long, as with the pickle jar.
Knight Papyrus
Wack, I know. But there are a few points behind this. First of all, Papyrus was the goofiest character in Undertale and Undyne was the most threatening. Now that Undyne is the goofiest character in Deltarune, Papyrus has to be the most threatening. Also, in chess, the knight is the only piece that can jump over the other pieces. Guess what Papyrus does after his battle in Undertale? Jumps over you.
Also, the Knight, according to Seam, appeared recently. Guess who recently moved in? Sans and Papyrus. You never see the Knight in the first 2 chapters. Guess who else you don't see? Papyrus.
All evidence points to Papyrus.
Ralsei = Asriel
This is also really fucked up, but Ralsei has to be related to Asriel somehow. First off, there's the appearance. They're the exact same, minus the clothes. Second of all, they're both princes. Third of all, there's the names; "Ralsei" is an anagram for "Asriel". Sure, this could just be a coincidence, but what if Ralsei and Asriel are cousins? Siblings? This is just mind-breaking.
