Game
Lasterisk

I'm just going to put this out here as a warning to anybody who is interested at all in this game:

Expect Lasterisk to be a disappointment. No, seriously.

When I first started making Lasterisk in mid-June of this year, it was intended to be a small project. I wanted to make something short and simple after finishing my largest game yet (which was Erobdista) However, the game grew larger and larger over the next few months to the point where I don't know if I can release it in time for the intended release date (Semptember 30th) without cutting some corners. Of course, I could just delay the game. I'm not some big studio with deadlines to reach, I'm just one guy making stupid games on the internet! But even if I did delay the game, there are several aspects that couldn't be fixed without remaking the game from scratch. A lot of the game is just random, scripted sequences with barely any gameplay or narrative. Besides a couple parts, I found Lasterisk to be extremely boring and repetitive. The gameplay loop is mostly just going down several different "paths", reaching a dead end, and having to return to your boat (Which acts sort of as a hub for your character). There are map pieces to obtain, too. But the only reward for getting all of them is a joke ending that's just one image with a little narration.

Overall, I am unhappy with Lasterisk. I didn't put as much passion into it as I normally do. I know that statement is going to raise some eyebrows, but I am serious. Usually, I make a game with a purpose beyond just "I want to make a game". I made FNaF MS-Paint Edition because I wanted to reimagine the Five Nights at Freddy's storyline, I made Never Enough 1 and 2 to express my frustration with the reception of my games, Big Trash was made to experiment with different ideas, and Erobdista was an attempt at making a large-scale project. Lasterisk... didn't have any major reason behind its existence. As such, the game feels pointless to me.

I'm not quite sure what I want to do with the project, now. I do not feel very motivated to finish it. But at the same time, I'd hate to cancel it. What will most likely happen is I decide to release an unfinished build of the game by the end of the month and call it quits (on the project, not game design in general). I'm sorry to say that, but I did not really enjoy making this particular game. I want to go back to what made game design fun for me, whatever that was. However, none of this really matters anyway. Lasterisk is just one shitty little game in the vast sea of literal thousands of other little games on the internet. I doubt anyone will read this, but I still wish to put an update out there regardless.
