R.I.P. Akira Toriyama (1955-2024)
I recently found out about it this morning. One of the GJ users posted about it. It's very sad and unfortunate. It was found out that he died on March 1st, 2024. His family did a private funeral. That's why no one knew about it until they made announcement about it. His works were very creative. He was 68 years old. He has certainly left a legacy and inspired a lot of artists and anime.
I started watching the Dragon Ball series back in 2022. I had a friend back in high school who was a big fan of DBZ. He would talk about it all the time. I wasn't interested in it back then, but I would still listen to him talk about it. I did know a few things from the show. It wasn't until recent years that I decided to watch the show. I watched Dragon Ball and then DBZ. I need to go back and finish DBZ.
Watching Dragon Ball had a "sense of adventure" when Goku was just a kid. Trying to collect all the dragon balls. Toriyama had a lot of creative ideas and awesome worldbuilding in the world of Dragon Ball.
Then I started watching DBZ. It just got better and better. Fun fighting scenes. Interesting character arcs, etc. I ended where Gohan is now a teen and has his alter ego, the Great Saiyaman, and then I took a break watching the show. Now I just need to go back and finish it.
I'm curious how the Dragon Ball will continue on. I heard that supposedly Toriyama has already found someone to continue the series before he passed away. I guess we'll see how things will go for the future of Dragon Ball.
May Akira Toriyama rest in peace and my condolences go towards his family. Thank you for creating such a unique series and inspiring others to create their own stories.
